Job Title: Alation Consultant

Location: Texas - Remote

Duration / Term: 6+ months Contract

Job Description:

The primary role of the Project Manager is to drive execution and ongoing oversight of the Data Marketplace project and standards that support the growth and scalability of the Alation Catalog. This role is targeted at individuals who are looking to leverage their existing experience to grow into a critical central figure within our Snowflake, Power BI and Alation team, and with the consumers we serve. You will partner with stakeholders in the organization's Business and technical teams and the broader Enterprise data ecosystem, including Snowflake and Stibo, to develop a deep understanding of business needs, perform analysis, and execute solutions to transform the business through governance processes, technology, and policies. The Manager will also be responsible for programs to support our strong data culture and Data Literacy Program.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Deliver operational excellence for the Data Marketplace, focusing on metadata management, data cataloging, and lineage management with focus on business processes
  • Manage and analyze information using a variety of techniques and tools in alignment with Enterprise standards
  • Developing and driving the Alation-based Unified Smart Catalog and Governance product and associated operating model
  • Grow and enhance our enterprise data marketplace program
  • Help execute the data marketplace strategy for Power BI to support the organization's strategic objectives specifically around self-service
  • Collaborate with teams to establish consistency in developing recommendations around Standards, best practices, and self-help documentation
  • Collaborate with partners across the enterprise in designing and maintaining the data to ensure business needs are met while balancing quality, technical team workload
  • Provide support to other teams and Data projects to ensure accurate alignment to data Marketplace standards including data products, KPIs, data cataloging, and data discovery
  • Present oral and written presentations to key partners. Has the ability to support and influence these stakeholders
  • Managing the build and communication of collateral to educate and train data users
  • Managing and prioritizing the opportunities to apply standards and policies to data and areas where authoritative sources of data should be used.

Qualification Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in any of Metadata Management, Business Intelligence, Data Quality, Data Analysis, or Master Data Management
  • 5+ years of experience capturing and documenting complex business and functional requirements comprehensively into enterprise data catalog
  • Familiarity with Enterprise Data Management, including data access, data quality, data ingestion, and data infrastructure
  • Ability to lead various data initiatives across a heavily matrixed organization
  • Proven ability to communicate to a technical and non-technical audience
  • Experience in implementing large-scale data programs or analytics solutions
  • Experience developing and maintaining data catalogs, data discovery, and data quality tooling
  • Ability to drive continuous improvement efforts and be the change agent
  • Have a customer-focused mindset applied to both internal and external consumers
  • Capability to be agile, proactive, comfortable working with ambiguous specifications, think outside the box to come up with innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Knowledge of data management practices (data quality, metadata management, data security/privacy and master data management)
  • Experience with Tableau and a big plus having experience with the data management Tableau product
  • Experience with Data Catalog tools and platforms (like Alation)
  • Experience with Snowflake or similar data warehouse
  • Experience with BI tools.
