Architect
BB&E is a full service civil and environmental engineering and consulting firm, headquartered in Northville, Michigan, which services both the Federal and Industrial sectors throughout the United States. BB&E team members provide Environmental Consulting, Facilities Engineering and Program/Project Management Services to Federal and private sectors.
Position Summary
BB&E is currently looking for an Architect to support BB&E s A&AS contract, assisting NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic, supporting facilities design and construction projects on-site at Portsmouth Naval Station, Kittery, ME.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide timely, professional architectural support, services and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other Supported Commands, including specific projects, special projects, military construction (MILCON), demolition, maintenance, space utilization and facilities development
- The professional services provided will be part of a Navy team that supports the following facility types: housing; community support facilities (dining hall, clubs, fitness centers, child development centers); medical facilities; education/training facilities; maintenance shops; industrial facilities; hangars; administration buildings; operations buildings (command and control centers); and other shore installation facilities
- Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborates with other engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with specific project requirements
- Provide support services including, but not limited to, input and feedback on third party designs, and recommendations with respect to programming, space planning, concept design, development, sustainable practices, and codes compliance assurance to include analysis of furnished drawings and specifications, review of cost estimates and other required services
Key Qualifications
- Broad professional knowledge and skill in architectural concepts, theories, principles, practices, and techniques necessary to plan, design, manage, construct, preserve, restore, rehab, oversee, and maintain a wide range of shore installation facilities projects
- Professional knowledge and experience in architectural design demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of all phases of architectural design, including architectural programming, space planning, concept design development, sustainable design, design analyses, compliance with codes and standards, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, other required services
- Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria, and policy; the International Building Code; Life Safety Code, industry codes and standards; and standard practices related to architectural design
- Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting architectural design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic area of responsibility (AOR)
- Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to architectural design
- Knowledge and experience with Autodesk software, Microsoft Office products, architectural design and analysis software, and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command
- Ability to produce results of analysis in writing; review and consolidate findings of others; and evaluate recommendations and facts
- Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies
- Knowledge of budgeting, planning, and project management techniques, including the ability to coordinate the work of others and lead teams
- Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
Experience & Education
- A minimum of five (5) years of professional, architectural code compliant facilities design experience for new construction, including renovation design experience, is required
- Completion of a course of studies accredited by the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) for an architectural program from a college or university earning a Bachelor's or Master s degree in Architecture, supplemented by a considerable amount of hands-on facilities design experience, is required
Requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary position at least 60% of the time
- Ability to operate office equipment, including computer, copy machine, phone, etc.
- Capable of light lifting, under 10 lbs.
- Ability to wear the required PPE
