Job Description:

Job Title: Wireless LAN Engineer (Aruba)

Location: Remote, with a preference for candidates in the Midwest or Pacific time zones.

Contract 6-12 months contract with possible extension

Position Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled WLAN Engineer with expertise in Aruba wireless networking solutions to support a multi-site refresh project. This candidate will be responsible for assisting in the upgrade of wireless LAN controllers (from 7240s to 7240XMs) and ensuring the smooth operation of the wireless infrastructure across multiple locations. The role requires deep knowledge of Aruba s technology stack, including wireless controllers and AOS (Version 8), with a strong focus on upgrades, performance, and troubleshooting.

This is a contract position for 6-12 months with the flexibility to work remotely. While some onsite work will be handled by another team member, the resource will need to be available for change windows during nights and weekends, as scheduled by the team. The role requires close involvement during off-hour maintenance windows, which will be led by another team member.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in the upgrade of Aruba wireless controllers, transitioning from 7240s to 7240XMs across multiple sites.

Provide expert-level support and guidance on Aruba WLAN infrastructure, including controllers, access points, and mobility management.

Ensure seamless integration and operation of Aruba wireless controllers running AOS Version 8.

Monitor and troubleshoot wireless network performance to ensure high availability, uptime, and minimal latency across all locations.

Collaborate with other team members to plan and execute upgrades, ensuring minimal disruption to network services.

Provide input and participate in change windows scheduled during nights and weekends, ensuring smooth transitions during off-hours.

Maintain documentation of wireless network upgrades, configurations, and operational procedures.

Stay up-to-date with Aruba hardware/software updates and recommend ongoing enhancements to optimize performance and security.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

8+ years of experience as a WLAN Engineer or Network Engineer with a strong focus on Aruba wireless technologies.

Hands-on experience upgrading and managing Aruba wireless controllers (7240s to 7240XMs) and familiarity with AOS Version 8.

Proficiency in ArubaOS, Aruba Mobility Controllers, and Aruba Instant Access Points.

Strong knowledge of wireless network protocols (TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs, etc.) and wireless standards (802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax).

Aruba certification such as ACMA (Aruba Certified Mobility Associate) or ACMP (Aruba Certified Mobility Professional) is preferred.

Experience with wireless troubleshooting tools (e.g., Ekahau, AirMagnet) and network management platforms such as Aruba AirWave.

Ability to support remote work and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure network upgrades are completed efficiently.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with cloud-managed wireless networks or SD-WAN.

Familiarity with virtual networking environments and cloud-based infrastructure.

Experience with network automation and scripting (Python, Ansible) is a plus.
