As a Business Data Analyst, you will work with people from all over Optum to bring quality data into an enterprise data platform to enable communications to Rx members and patients. You will constantly be learning new data and areas of the business and working with new people. A typical day could include leading a meeting to elicit business requirements, deep-diving into analyzing and understanding data and how it can be used to fulfill requirements, explaining the requirements to offshore developers, and working with your direct teammates on documentation or process improvements. Our matrixed team of over a dozen Data Strategists and Business Data Analysts is composed of people from multiple countries who are dedicated to supporting each other, sharing, and achieving great things as a team.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Enable an exceptional consumer experience by driving development and adoption of an enterprise, real-time, consumer communication data infrastructure
  • Develop holistic knowledge of assigned data domains including source systems, and constantly review to identify and drive improvements to data quality, velocity, sourcing, process, monitoring, and metrics
  • Ensure the data needs of consumers, external clients, internal clients, and business partners are met by leading/coaching them to identify and articulate their business requirements
  • Develop expertise in multiple data domains and source data systems
  • Analyze internal/external systems to assess potential data sources for ingestion into the data platform; recommend best source to meet business requirements and platform standards
  • Analyze source data to identify what selection criteria, transformations and/or cleansing is needed to fulfill each business requirement
  • Create and maintain data mapping documents (Source to Target or Business Requirements Document) and supporting documents
  • Assist the Agile Product Owner with translating business requirements into Agile features, user stories, and acceptance criteria for migrations, new requests, enhancements, or production issues
  • Attend daily standups to answer questions and collaborate with developers
  • Confirm data deliverables meet quality standards; may assist with QA; post-deployment, troubleshoot data quality issues and identify root causes
  • Collaborate with Agile Product Owners, Data Strategists, IT Architects and Developers, source system experts, peers, and leadership as needed
  • Operate as part of a larger BDA team, follow established SOP's and Best Practices, update project and time tracking, and escalate as needed
  • Identify and drive BDA and Agile process/quality/efficiency improvements
  • Special projects as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of involvement in medium to large technology or data projects as a data analyst, business analyst, systems analyst, developer, or other data-focused role on a project team
  • 3+ years of experience writing moderately complex SQL queries involving multiple joins, unions, and aggregations against massive data stores
  • 3+ years of experience collaborating with business and technical users, and authoring Business Requirements Documents, Source-to-Target Mapping documents, program/process flow charts, Use Cases, and/or Acceptance Criteria for data-focused projects
  • Demonstrated ability to engage in a highly collaborative culture and communicate effectively with people of diverse skillsets and backgrounds across the US and India - lead meetings of 10+ people at all levels, explain requirements to entry-level developers or experience architects, report risks/blockers to senior leadership, etc.
  • Experience working in a dynamic environment with ambiguity, rapidly changing priorities, and multiple concurrent projects; adept at keeping track of details and status on your own and other's tasks
  • Able to participate in daily meetings at 8:00 AM US Central time (schedule is flexible otherwise)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intermediate knowledge of Agile process and principles; basic experience using Rally (CA Agile)
  • Experience working with large, complex data platforms such as Databricks, Kafka/json, Microsoft Hyperscale, Oracle/Exadata, Hadoop/data lakes, etc.
  • Working knowledge of health care or pharmacy benefit management industry products/services and operations
  • Ability to learn and use new technologies, data, and processes quickly
  • Curious and excited to learn new things every day; unafraid to ask questions to gain understanding; persistent about getting answers

Total Compensation. As part of your total compensation package, which includes base, bonus opportunity, PTO and holiday pay, you will also receive these benefits at these rates, not to mention a remote work opportunity and healthy work/life balance.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
