Job Title: Data and Reporting Developer (PostgreSQL And Tableau with AWS)
Contract: 12+ Months
Location: Remote
Client is seeking a Data and Reporting Developer contractor to support the expansion and maintenance of its data infrastructure, development of reporting and analytics dashboards, and to assist in managing third-party system data integrations. The contractor will work closely with Product, Engineering, IT and different business units, to provide technical expertise in database management and reporting using PostgreSQL, AWS RDS, Tableau, and third-party systems like Anthology Finance. The contractor will play a crucial role in managing the college's data flows, enabling data-driven decision-making, and ensuring the seamless integration of systems across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- PostgreSQL Database Expansion and Maintenance
Maintain and Expand the AWS-hosted PostgreSQL Database: The contractor will be responsible for expanding client s PostgreSQL database hosted in AWS RDS. This database is a critical "source of truth" that consolidates data from various systems of record (e.g., learning management systems, student information systems, and the student portal).
Tasks:
Designing and implementing new views, indexes, and optimizations to support ongoing data integration efforts.
Developing and optimizing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure efficient and accurate data ingestion from source systems.
Monitoring and optimizing database performance, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and tuning.
Implementing data governance policies, backup strategies, and security best practices in alignment with AWS RDS infrastructure.
- Required Technologies:
PostgreSQL: 5+ years of experience in designing, optimizing, and managing PostgreSQL databases, ideally in an AWS RDS environment.
AWS RDS: 3+ years of experience working with AWS RDS for hosting and maintaining databases.
ETL Tools: Knowledge of ETL processes and tools used for data integration.
- Tableau Reporting and Dashboard Development
Develop Reports and Dashboards:
The contractor will work with business units to develop comprehensive reports and dashboards using Tableau. The Tableau environment pulls data from the PostgreSQL database hosted on AWS RDS.
Tasks:
Collaborating with stakeholders to identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting needs.
Developing advanced Tableau dashboards that provide actionable insights for various departments.
Writing SQL queries to pull relevant data from PostgreSQL for Tableau reports.
Ensuring data accuracy, security, and integrity in reporting outputs.
Working with internal users to iterate on dashboards and ensure they meet operational and analytical needs.
- Required Technologies:
Tableau: 3+ years of experience in developing Tableau dashboards and reports.
SQL (PostgreSQL): Expertise in writing and optimizing SQL queries for reporting purposes.
Data Visualization: Strong understanding of data visualization best practices and experience in crafting intuitive and meaningful dashboards.
- Third-Party System Integration and Reporting (Anthology Finance)
Support and Integration for Third-Party Systems: The contractor will work closely with internal teams to ensure that third-party systems, like Anthology Finance, are fully utilized, and reports are generated for business purposes.
Tasks:
Assisting the finance team in extracting, transforming, and loading data from Anthology Finance into the PostgreSQL database.
Developing custom reports within Anthology Finance, or through external reporting tools, to meet the needs of the finance department.
Providing data migration support and troubleshooting for any API integrations with third-party systems.
Ensuring data consistency between Anthology Finance and the broader Calbright data ecosystem.
- Required Technologies:
Anthology Finance or similar ERP Systems: Experience in working with financial or enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, specifically Anthology Finance or similar platforms.
API Integration: Familiarity with API integrations, preferably for data transfer between third-party systems and internal databases.
Database Management: Strong knowledge of database structures and the ability to query and report on third-party systems. General Requirements - Collaboration: The contractor will work closely with data engineers, business analysts, and business unit leaders to ensure alignment on data needs and reporting objectives.
Documentation: Provide thorough documentation of database schema, ETL processes, and reports to support future maintenance and scalability.
Problem Solving: Ability to troubleshoot data-related issues and work through complex integration challenges.
Security: Implement data security best practices, including encryption, access control, and audit logging, in collaboration with IT security policies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related fields.
Experience: 5+ years of experience in database engineering, data warehousing, and reporting development.
Certifications: Certifications in AWS (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect) and Tableau preferred.
Soft Skills:
Strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to work in a mission-driven environment like Calbright College. Deliverables
