Business Analyst

The Business Intelligence Analyst establishes and maintains a consultative partnership with business owners, stakeholders and leadership. Is responsible for developing, analyzing, and evaluating information/data to create and maintain business intelligence that supports the strategic objectives, mission and business intelligence strategy of the health system. Collaborates with technical teams and EDW teams to develop needed data infrastructure for respective business intelligence solutions. Supports business intelligence tools and systems, and end-users of these tools and systems. Contributes to and supports data and analytic governance, process and tool documentation, data and analytic asset inventories, and business intelligence knowledge base documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Accounting, Business, Finance, Computer Science, Health Informatics, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, IT, or Math.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in data analysis of complex, large data sets, preferably in healthcare.

Essential Functions

  • Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.
  • Manages business intelligence vendor relationships and software solutions, in some instances acting as System Administrator and/or subject matter expert (SME).
  • Works with business owners to define and develop business intelligence deliverables. May lead/manage project work plan and timeline.
  • Coordinates/conducts processes and audits to ensure accurate reporting solutions that are consistent with defined business needs.
  • Synthesizes business intelligence and trend/benchmarking data to generate standard or custom reporting that supports recommendations for action readily consumable by business owners.
  • Creates/maintains business intelligence methods, databases, dashboards, tools or systems.
  • Creates/maintains documentation of knowledge assets, e.g. models, business rules, technical specifications (data mapping, data flows, dashboard content, data dictionaries).
  • Mines data from medical systems and data bases, conducting analyses and identifying data integrity issues to be vetted through the Health System data governance structure for escalation and resolution.
  • Remains current on best practices in healthcare and analytic information relative to areas of responsibility, such as familiarity with regulatory policies and requirements, e.g., The Joint Commission.
  • Serves as an internal consultant for Health System research, data collection, interpretation and presentation of business intelligence.
  • Provides technical support for existing business intelligence tools and systems.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills that provide effective interaction with all levels of the business organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and self- manage projects and time.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to create and foster a cooperative teamwork environment.
  • Intermediate computer skills in business intelligence applications and/or statistical analysis software, e.g., Microsoft Office (Excel, Access), SAS, Tableau, Minitab, Matlab, VBA/SQL/MySQL/R, Crystal Reports, Business Objects.
  • Strong ability to translate business questions into data requirements and business intelligence.
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, clinical quality, revenue cycle, and health information technology preferred.
  • Knowledge of applied research, statistical and financial analysis preferred.
  • Knowledge of database structures, data querying, ETL, MDM, distributed computing tools, data mining, data auditing and technical documentation preferred.
  • Familiar with software system testing and support preferred.
  • Familiar with performance improvement and/or LEAN methodologies preferred.
