Job Description:

This Ops Engineer supports our Purpose in their work championing safe and efficient aircraft operations on our Network Operations Planning (NOP) Engineering Team. This Engineer will work to understand regulations, manufacturer requirements and recommendations, Company policies, and industry standards related to aircraft performance and operations engineering. The Ops Engineer will also work collaboratively with various Technical Operations (Tech Ops) Teams and external partners, including Boeing, GE, and more to continually drive operational enhancements. This role is a hybrid position based out of our Corporate Campus in Dallas, TX, which requires Employees to work at a Company facility at least three days a week. Job Summary
  • Supports safe and efficient aircraft operations though the study, education, analysis and evaluation of airplane performance and weight and balance capabilities and functionality.


Responsibilities
  • Maintain responsibility for takeoff, enroute and landing aircraft performance and weight and balance data as required by FAR Part 25 and 121
  • Analyze aircraft performance to support the safe and efficient operation of the airline and convey that information through performance and weight and balance systems, Electronic Flight Bag, Dispatch flight planning system, Flight Operations Manual, Flight Reference Manual, and other Flight Operations and Network Operations Control publications
  • Administer, maintain and provide validation and audit support for aircraft performance systems and supporting data, including the performance and weight and balance systems, Dispatch flight planning system, and navigational data
  • Provide support and training as required to other groups within the Company, including Flight Operations, Dispatch, Network Planning, Technical Operations, Finance, Supply Chain Management, General Counsel, and Ground Operations in regards to aircraft performance capability and regulation
  • Provide support and representation to external groups, including airport authorities, manufacturers, vendors, regulators, and consultants
  • Assist in the development and integration of new technologies into Operations
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of software code for Operations Engineering to support the operations working groups
  • Facilitate transition of current operations engineering programming standards to future standards based on the best operational and business practices available
  • Understand and apply applicable regulations, manufacturer requirements and recommendations, Company policies and industry standards related to aircraft performance and operations engineering
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology, including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, aerodynamics, and their applications
  • Skilled in collecting, organizing, visualizing, and assimilating data, including turning raw data into meaningful information using data-oriented programming languages and visualization software
  • Skilled in identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Skilled in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
  • Ability to read documents, follow instructions, learn, and understand office procedures and various contracts
  • Ability to work with others as part of a Team and work under stressful situations
  • Ability to work extended hours based on operational needs


Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Preferred: Aeronautical, Aerospace, or Mechanical Engineering degree


Experience
  • Intermediate level experience, fully functioning broad knowledge in:
    • Airline or manufacturer experience in aerodynamics and/or aircraft performance engineering and programming experience
    • Boeing aircraft performance tools and methods
    • Aircraft certification, flight operations, flight dispatch, and aircraft weight and balance

Competitive market salary from $102.5 per year to $113.9 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
