About the Job

We are looking for a NYC-based Product Design Manager to join our remote Product Design team. As a Product Design Manager, you will manage two product designers, helping to elevate the overall design quality, culture, and effectiveness of our team, as well as contributing to ongoing design work. You will report to the Director of Product and will lead across multiple company initiatives: supporting artists and merch partners, contributing to marketplace customer experiences, and supporting internal admin tooling. Additionally, you will play a key role in executing ongoing brand redesign work that communicates TeePublic's value proposition across the marketplace.

Responsibilities

  • Career Development: Lead and manage a team of two product designers by providing career guidance, mentorship, 1:1s, and support to ensure their professional growth and success.
  • People Management: Foster a culture of happiness, empathy, productivity, collaboration, and work-life-balance of a remote design team.
  • Strategy: Participate in product strategy discussions and project planning.
  • Teamwork: Collaborate across teams to deliver high-quality design solutions that empower our artists, merch partners, and enhance the customer journey.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, ensuring alignment and understanding of design goals and project progress.
  • User Research: Conduct user research, interviews, and usability testing to gather insights and inform design decisions.
  • User Experience: Ensure that every experience solves problems in intuitive and lean ways, while also adhering to industry best practices.
  • Design: Utilize Figma and other design tools to create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs. Lead our product brand redesign efforts by ensuring design consistency and clarity in communicating our value proposition.
  • Culture: Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, experimentation and iteration. Lead positive design critique sessions that foster learning and growth.
  • Planning: Lead team process, vision, responsibilities, timelines, and resourcing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in a product design role.
  • 5+ years in a management or a leadership role.
  • Solid visual awareness with understanding of design principles like typography, layout, composition, and color theory.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end user experiences for complex and highly-technical digital products.
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful design solutions that drive business results.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and time management skills.
  • Strong ability to present design concepts and decisions to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent proficiency with Figma, Adobe Photoshop, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Strong experience with user research tools and usability testing methods.
  • Strong understanding of design systems and best practices for creating accessible user experiences.
  • Remote or in-office; must be based in NY or surrounding areas

Additional Preferred Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of e-commerce best practices and marketplace experiences.
  • Experience with HTML/CSS and understanding of front-end development.
  • Knowledge of web content accessibility guidelines (WCAG).
  • Experience with agile and lean methodologies.
  • Experience with tools such as Figjam, Maze, Useberry, Miro, Notion, Jira, Confluence, and Github.

In support of pay transparency and equity, the minimum and maximum full-time annual base salary for this role in New York is $180,000 - $220,000 at the time of posting. While this is our reasonable expectation this is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, actual compensation is influenced by a wide range of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, education, certifications, responsibility, and geographic location. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location.
