3.1 Phillip Lim is looking for a Designer to join our WRTW team.

What you'll do:

Deliver Design:

  • Create brand-right design that reflect the conceptual creative direction and business strategy.
  • Deliver product designs with quality execution, achieving goals with speed, agility and acute attention to details.
  • Extensively research creative ideas and provide design input into relevant collections that can be presented to both Design Director and sales teams (at various times in the calendar).
  • Storytelling and concept building to lead discussions around design & concept direction to communicate seasonal direction.
  • Strong sense of ownership and excellent follow up skills to ensure the finished product is clearly communicated and beautifully executed.
  • Attend fittings and collaborate with design team, cross functional team members (PD, Tech and Production) and pattern makers for adherence to quality and brand standards.
  • Ensure deliverables meet budget and time commitments without compromising design excellence.
  • Ability to create drapes and full garments to present in a 3-D format during design work time.
  • Able to design up to 50% of the collection.

Be a leader on the Team:

  • Able to manage designers and assist in leading the team.
  • Able to work with cross functional partners – aligning on key objectives of different teams and collaborating and communicating with key partners throughout the design process.
  • Support, inspire and develop junior talent.
  • Collaborate with the design team to build and develop seasonal concepts while overseeing the design process, from inception to finalization.

High Level Thinking:

  • Holistic understanding of product life cycle: concept, development and production, working proactively to minimize issues throughout cycle & transitions.
  • Understanding of current RTW business – success/opportunities for collection, consumer expectations, target costs, etc., with the ability to find appropriate creative solutions.
  • Conscious of current fashion market and 3.1 Phillip Lim's position within it.
  • Understanding collection timelines and milestones.
  • Using resources wisely and collecting information to make informed decisions.
  • Employ a combination of creative thinking and logic to solve problems -- presentations of an 'issue' are accompanied by multiple thought out and feasible solutions.

What you have:

Strong Aesthetic:

  • Have Luxury designer brand experience (ideal 7+ years) or if not direct designer brand experience, must have a clear understanding and similar aesthetic as 3.1 Phillip Lim.
  • Work in the brand has runway experiences.
  • Creative individual with an artistic eye.

Team Player + Communicator:

  • Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to stay calm and level-headed under tight timelines and high stress situations. Strong ability to work effectively and react quickly under pressure and evolving needs. Demonstrates excellent time-management and prioritization
  • Passionate/motivated – equally loves the product, process and execution.
  • Proactive – anticipates needs & issues and works proactively to find solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and at the same time, be able to take direction.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and inform stakeholders, both inside and outside of the company, at all levels, both written and verbal.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Basic/fundamental atelier knowledge: steaming, pressing, sewing machine, serger, buttonholes, etc., garment sewing & swatch development.
  • Computer skills must include Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office.
