Position Overview:

We are looking for a motivated and knowledgeable Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting to play a key role in accounting and reporting matters for a public company. Reporting to the Controller, the Senior Manager of Accounting and Reporting will be responsible for ensuring compliance with SEC regulations, U.S. GAAP standards, and company policies. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of SEC reporting requirements, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Location:

Hybrid, with 2-3 days in the office (Menlo Park, CA) if within commuting distance of SF Bay Area

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review quarterly and annual filings with the SEC, including Forms 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, Proxy, and registration statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and deadlines.
  • Assist with the accounting for equity awards, including preparing journal entries, and preparation of the related equity schedules for the consolidated financial statements and footnote disclosures.
  • Draft technical accounting memos to support the Company's position on complex technical accounting matters including, but not limited to, stock-based compensation, debt, business combinations, revenue, and leases.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR) in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements to ensure adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Own assigned areas of accounting close tasks including accruals and reconciliations.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, footnotes, and supporting schedules for SEC filings, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial disclosures and tie-out documentation under the Company's SOX controls.
  • Assist in the preparation of portions of the GAAP and SEC disclosure checklists.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to gather and analyze financial data, supporting schedules, and disclosures for inclusion in SEC filings and collating their input.
  • Research and interpret accounting standards, SEC rules, and regulations, ensuring compliance with evolving reporting requirements.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Support the external audit process, liaising with external auditors and providing documentation and support for audit inquiries.
  • Stay informed about changes in accounting standards, SEC regulations, and industry best practices, advising management on potential impacts and opportunities.
  • Provide support in the preparations of other SEC filings and investor communications including 8-Ks, press releases, conference call scripts, and investor conference materials.
  • Assist in project management of the planning, coordination, and execution of the annual and quarterly SEC reporting processes.
  • Assist with special projects and ad hoc financial reporting as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in SEC reporting or related roles in a publicly traded company, preferably a biotech or life sciences company, and in a Big 4 public accounting firm.
  • Strong understanding of SEC reporting requirements, U.S. GAAP principles, financial statement presentation, and SOX.
  • Proficiency in SEC reporting software, ERP systems (NetSuite), and Reporting and Reconciliation tools (FloQast), etc.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and technical accounting guidance.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with XBRL tagging and filing preferred.

Salary Range For the Role

$150,000—$175,000 USD
