Aptive Resources is seeking a Communications Specialist supporting the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA). This candidate will serve as part of a team providing support in public relations, stakeholder engagement, workforce messaging, and agency branding, recruitment, and marketing support to DCSA in their efforts to build and maintain a successful talent sourcing strategy and provide technical assistance and guidance for agencies on proactively targeting a diverse workforce.

The candidate must have strong writing, communication and organizational skills. Experience developing and delivering compelling, informative and well-written communication products is a requirement. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, proactive problem-solver and action-oriented team player with previous experience translating complex information into plain language. He/she must be committed to providing superior service and have a positive and flexible attitude. Candidate must thrive in a high pressure, fast paced, executive-level environment and communicate effectively within a multi-disciplinary team. Experience supporting large-scale federal agencies and/or developing products for congressional engagement is preferred.

This position is remote with occasional in-person client meetings in the D.C. metro area. Normal operating hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. EST Monday through Friday, excluding Federal holidays.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Contribute to communications program area and develop products in support of the communication strategy.
  • Research, write, edit and coordinate a broad range of communications/outreach materials (e.g., articles, one-pagers, media pitches, outreach scripts, social media posts, video scripts, website content) under strict deadlines.
  • Provide subject matter expertise in communications and outreach.
  • Develop and implement communications and outreach plans.
  • Participating as a member of a cross-functional team, delivering high-quality products on schedule.
  • Gather, analyze and interpret information and data from various sources to use across content.
  • Attend meetings and engage with clients on a regular basis.
  • Develop content in compliance with AP style and other guidelines.
  • Apply consistent formatting and style throughout documents and contract deliverables.
  • Assist in developing monthly and annual reports.
  • Monitor effectiveness of communications.
  • Cultivate positive, trusting and cooperative working relationships with all persons supporting the work, including government employees, team members, and other vendors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (English, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business, Marketing or relevant equivalent).
  • 3+ years of experience in writing, strategic communications, outreach, public relations and strategic partnership development.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, including familiarity with AP style. Possess the ability to rapidly adapt to specific organizational style conventions.
  • Ability to deliver clear, compelling written and verbal communications.
  • Expert knowledge of the use of digital means to connect and engage.
  • Exceptional people skills with the ability to collaborate across teams, clients, personalities and styles.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse stakeholders and facilitate productive discussions.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks, work with limited supervision and produce high-quality results under tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding and grasp of plain language writing standards.
  • Ability to communicate thoughts, ideas and solutions logically – written, graphically and orally.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Communications portfolio may be requested during interview process.

Desired Qualifications

  • Proven expertise in strategic communications, public relations, public affairs, research, writing and editing.
  • Experience developing communications for large federal agencies or for congressional engagement.
  • Proficiency in organizing, communicating information and participating in meetings with c-suite level stakeholders.
  • Ability to juggle assignments and make sound decisions in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Positive and energetic attitude with a strong desire to meet goals and maintain commitments.
  • Self-starter with a drive to accomplish tasks.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of written, oral and visual communication to speak and write with clarity and tact at the executive level.
  • Experience communicating detailed and technical concepts to a diverse audience.
