Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Copy Editor to join our editorial team. The ideal candidate will have a keen eye for detail and a passion for maintaining the highest standards of clarity, readability, and accuracy across all platforms, including print, web, and video. This role requires a meticulous approach to editing and proofreading, as well as the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines both independently and collaboratively.

Rate: $45 - $54 / hr. w2

Responsibilities:
  • Copy Editing and Proofreading:
    • Edit and proofread editorial content across various platforms, including print, web, and video, ensuring clarity, readability, and accuracy.
    • Examine body text, headlines, decks, captions, credits, charts, and other editorial components for spelling, grammar, and style.
    • Suggest improvements in meaning, clarity, cohesiveness, balance, and identify "missing pieces," repetition, and other issues.
  • Content Review:
    • Review photos and illustrations for potential content problems.
    • Check all online copy for formatting errors, broken links, and other usability flaws.
  • Fact-Checking:
    • Conduct basic fact-checking when necessary to ensure the accuracy of content.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with editors and designers to ensure content meets editorial standards and objectives.
    • Exercise sensitivity to editors' objectives and writers' voices while incorporating changes that achieve clarity and correct style.
  • Style Guide Contribution:
    • Contribute suggested changes to the organization-wide style guide to maintain consistency and quality.
  • Workflow Management:
    • Work efficiently within established copy flow and procedures, meeting deadlines consistently.
    • Demonstrate flexibility and initiative in providing creative solutions to copy editing and other editorial challenges.


Experience Requirements:
  • At least 10+ years of experience in copy editing for major magazines, newspapers, or web publications.
  • Exceptional writing skills and an in-depth understanding of grammar and usage.
  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a remote setting.
  • Proficiency in using editorial and content management tools.


Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English, or a related field.


Skills, experience, and other compensable factors will be considered when determining pay rate. The pay range provided in this posting reflects a W2 hourly rate; other employment options may be available that may result in pay outside of the provided range.
