The Opportunity

ABC is seeking a Database Analyst/Administrator to join our IT department. The primary responsibility of the Database Analyst/Administrator is to develop, manage and maintain ABC s data resources. This position will also provide support for SQL and report development, as well as data-related projects and initiatives.

In this role, the Database Analyst/Administrator will have the following responsibilities:

Database Design, Development, and Maintenance

• Provide operational database support for MS SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB and other relational databases at ABC
• Ensure database availability by quickly troubleshooting and resolving database-related issues
• Plan, design, and develop physical databases according to required specifications
• Lead and execute database upgrades and data migration tasks between databases or across platforms, such as from SQL Server to MySQL
• Configure and install Database Management System patches and/or updates
• Perform routine database monitoring and functional testing to ensure performance and availability
• Coordinate with IT team to formulate policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management and activities
• Proactively identify and evaluate industry trends, as well as internal technology deficiencies, to serve as a reliable source of information and propose viable, industry-standard solutions
• Participate in the planning and execution of database back-up and restore operations as needed
• Database optimization and performance tuning, including but not limited to index management, hardware sizing recommendations, physical and schema design

Data Management, Storage, and Security

• Plan, coordinate and implement security measures to safeguard data against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure
• Minimize the potential for data loss by implementing policies for data security and access control; specify user level of access
• Manage and maintain database documentation, including but not limited to database dictionaries and source-to-target mappings
• Monitor and support ABC s ETL/data integration processes end-to-end
• Assist in the development, oversight, and enforcement of ABC s data quality and integrity policies
• Provide solutions and recommendations for effective capacity management by analyzing existing database usage statistics and understanding future needs

SQL Development / Project Support

• Identify database requirements by interviewing customers, and evaluating/ analyzing existing systems, department applications, programming, and operations
• Actively participate in Requirement Gathering sessions and discussions for projects that involve database development or data-related changes; provide time and cost estimates, proactively communicate risks and limitations, and coordinate additional resources
• Recommend and design proposed systems or solutions based on customer need; consider and define physical structure, functional capabilities, access and security, and other data-related aspects as deemed necessary
• Balance and prioritize project workload with operational tasks; establish realistic deadlines and consistently meet targets; frequently communicate status updates, impediments, and project risks/delays
• Assist in developing ad-hoc reports in response to Business needs; provide technical support and oversight in the creation and deployment of operational reports and related database objects, such as stored procedures and SQL Agent jobs
• Assist in the analysis and troubleshooting of ETL failures, data inconsistencies, and defects in reporting and SQL Agent jobs

Qualifications/Education

• Advanced knowledge and experience in SQL script development
• Extensive knowledge and experience in data warehouse management, data modeling techniques, and OLAP
• Proven ability to successfully manage a SQL Server environment
• Proven ability to clearly and effectively present information and responds to questions from IT and Business staff alike
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft products and Operating Systems
• Moderate experience in developing and supporting data migration/ETL solutions, SSIS preferred
• Moderate experience in report development, SSRS and/or Tableau preferred
• Basic understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems

• Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Minimum of (5) years of experience in applied application and database development/administration experience

• Knowledge and experience working with data covered by HIPAA, PCI or related compliance standards
• Prior experience working with SQL Server OLAP, ETL, and Reporting tools
