Job Title: Business Systems Analyst
Location: Hybrid in either Pittsburgh, PA, or Cleveland, OH
Duration: 6-12 months contract-to-hire

Overview:
As a Business Systems Analyst, you will play a pivotal role in the migration and optimization of a critical Hadoop platform. You will help migrate 4000 users onto an upgraded platform while ensuring the smooth execution of all related functions and providing user support throughout the migration process. This position combines technical expertise in data platforms like Hadoop with customer-facing responsibilities, where you will assist users, create documentation, and manage technical upgrades and optimizations.

Key Initiatives/Projects:

  • Platform Migration: Leading the effort to migrate 4000 users to an upgraded data platform. This includes ensuring that all functionalities are operational and all users are appropriately supported.
  • Hadoop Platform Capabilities Testing: Testing, refining, and optimizing new capabilities for the platform, ensuring seamless user experience.
  • User Program Migration: Coordinating production migrations, ensuring user programs are functional post-migration, and resolving any arising issues.
  • Financial Services Focus (Preferred): Ideal candidates will have experience in the financial services sector, ensuring solutions meet industry-specific needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Platform Migration and Support: Plan and execute the migration of user programs to the upgraded Hadoop platform. Ensure all users are provided with the necessary support, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Work closely with users to identify and resolve technical issues encountered during migration or normal operations. Optimize code and platform connections as conditions evolve.
  • Documentation and Training: Create detailed user documentation and training materials. Conduct end-user training to ensure smooth adoption of the upgraded platform.
  • Code Optimization: Continuously update and optimize user programs to ensure smooth execution after migration, addressing any issues caused by changes in connections and platform conditions.

Must-Have Technical Skills/Experience:

  • Apache Impala & Apache Spark: Experience with these platforms is essential for working on the Hadoop ecosystem and ensuring a smooth migration and optimization.
  • Hadoop Cloudera: Practical experience with Cloudera Hadoop and Cloudera Data Services is critical for managing platform-specific tasks.
  • Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS): Must have familiarity with HDFS architecture for ensuring efficient data storage and retrieval.
  • Bash, Python, and C/C++: Strong experience with scripting languages like Bash and Python, and experience with C/C++ for more in-depth technical troubleshooting.
  • PySpark: Expertise in PySpark for analyzing large datasets in Hadoop and resolving data processing issues.
  • End User Training: Previous experience in creating and delivering end-user training materials and documentation.

Soft Skills:

  • Strong Communication (Verbal & Written): Ability to effectively communicate with both technical teams and end users, addressing both complex technical issues and user needs.
  • Planning & Prioritization: Exceptional organizational skills, especially in managing migration timelines, support priorities, and technical issues.
  • Presentation & Leadership Skills: Ability to present technical updates, lead user training sessions, and communicate progress to leadership.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree (Preferred): A degree in Computer Science, Information Systems A hybrid role combining technical expertise with customer-facing engagement. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys deep technical work while also interacting with users and stakeholders from a leadership perspective.
