The Microsoft Silicon, Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) organization is responsible for developing and delivering the hardware and firmware that is responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. We are looking for a Director, Power Hardware Engineering to join the team.
The Cloud AI & Advanced Systems Engineering (CAASE) team is instrumental in defining and delivering operational measures of success for hardware manufacturing, improving the planning process, quality, delivery, scale and sustainability related to Microsoft cloud hardware.
As Director , Power Hardware Engineering , you will be the technical voice focusing on design efforts specific to power infrastructure across Azure within Microsoft. You will be leading System level design and development , for AI and non AI systems, influencing architecture , engineering, and validation for our product s to deliver high quality solutions to the customers. You will also be responsible to develop and deploy solutions that enable reliable end to end delivery . This is an opportunity to work on next generation architecture and provide innovative solution to customers.

Preferred:
Electrical Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $137,600 - $267,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $180,400 - $294,000 per year. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- 12+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
- OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience
- 10 + years combined experience working in the server/storage/data center industry.
- 10+ Years working in the power industry developing AC-DC power supplies and power solutions.
- 10 + years combined experience working in the server/storage/data center industry.
- 12+ Years working in the power industry developing AC-DC power supplies and power solutions.
- 5+ years experience managing engineers developing server and data center power delivery solutions.
Other Requirement:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. Preferred:
- Ability to instrument and test power supplies and converters in the lab including use of oscilloscopes, power meters, electronic loads, DMM's and electronic sources.
- Experience in writing embedded systems code for AC-DC power supplies or power applications.
- Strong project management skills, system and sub-system level design knowledge, experienced in team leadership, a detailed background in ODM/JDM development and manufacturing processes plus an innate ability to think outside the box .
- Experience in specifying, designing, and qualifying UPS platforms.
- Experience in troubleshooting and resolving power supply or power delivery issues.
- Familiarity with EMI, Safety, and general agency requirements.
- Ability to create specifications and requirements.
- Excellent writing skills and use of Microsoft Office products
- Familiarity and experience with Battery backup operation and design.
- Understanding of I2C/UART/SPI and CAN bus protocols
- Deep knowledge of PMBUS standard

Responsibilities
- Work closely with multiple server Platform teams to create and support state of the art high power solutions and delivery for numerous parallel program developments.
- Work with Rack level development programs to develop and support leading edge high power delivery and conversion solutions at the rack to server level.
- Work hand in hand with Architect teams developing high quality, High reliability high power delivery using 48VDC and HVDC power shelf voltage levels and distribution.
- Support system engineering, Mechanical Engineering and global integration partners in executing new designs .
- Be a power subject matter expert to internal and external CHIE partners to resolve issues and obstacles as they arise in development and production.
- Work with Data Center Engineering and management to support/suggest infrastructure changes and improvements.
- Position requires working with and developing relationships with Microsoft internal quality, reliability, Agency, supply chain and Data center teams to ensure a smooth product delivery from concept to end of life.
- Position also requires support of PDU's, UPS's, Power conditioners, Circuit Breakers, Bus Bars, Battery Backup, ATS's.
