What you'll do

Viasat's Multi-Function Solutions team is responsible for developing phased array antennas and systems that are designed to be highly reliable and able to withstand the harsh DoD conditions. These antennas will perform multiple functions including radar and communications by integrating with software definable radios. This includes designing and building airborne and ground systems that are capable of surviving and continuing to function in the face of extreme temperatures, and other environmental challenges.

The day-to-day

  • Standardize existing software and firmware designs for broader system application through integrating and testing
  • Add software and firmware features for software defined phased array systems
  • Crafting new embedded software functions
  • Write unit tests or simulations, deploy to hardware, test with various pieces of test equipment
  • Automate development and testing to support continuous integration and continuous deployment
  • Write, replicate, and integrate existing CICD pipelines for new Embedded System Product
  • Document design, deployment, testing, and new features and to facilitate re-use

Internship Program Details:

  • You will work onsite at a Viasat office location for the duration of your 12-13 week internship. Viasat embraces a flexible work environment and onsite/hybrid work is determined by individual roles and teams.
  • Housing and relocation assistance are available to interns pending eligibility.
  • To ensure equity across our intern population, intern compensation is pre-determined based on a variety of factors including: role, location, and final graduation date. Intern compensation is non-negotiable.

What you'll need

Education requirements:
  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field
  • To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026

Internship Dates:
  • You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
    • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 - August 15th, 2025
    • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 - September 12th, 2025

Additional Requirements:
  • Experience using C and/or C++
  • Understanding of real-time concepts on embedded Linus or RTOS platforms
  • Current ship

What will help you on the job

  • Scripting experience with bash, python, or similar
  • Experience with multi-threaded applications and inter-process communication
  • Embedded System experience
    • Embedded Processors (bare metal, embedded Linux, PetaLinux, AMD MPSoC)
    • Software (C, C++. python, Linux)
    • CI/CD (Groovy, python, makefile, Jenkins)
  • RF Hardware and Test equipment experience
  • Previous Viasat internship experience

Salary range

$21 - $66 / hourly
