WZZM 13 On Your Side, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Michigan is looking for a highly skilled Visual Journalist & Storyteller/Photograher who can create exciting content for television and digital platforms. In addition, we are seeking a Photojournalist who can visualize great stories independently or work as part of a team. Our ideal candidate is familiar with the latest photography, editing tools, and techniques and acts with urgency to breaking news situations that require live reporting on air and live streaming.
Responsibilities

Our 401(k) program offers full, part-time and temporary employees the opportunity to contribute 1% - 80% of their pay on a pre-tax basis to TEGNA’s 401(k). Contributions made up to the first 4% of pay are eligible for a 100% match from the company and are 100% vested from day one.
Regardless of participation in TEGNA medical plans, ALL employees and their eligible family members receive nine free virtual doctor’s appointments with a physician through Teladoc, and 12 free annual therapy sessions with a licensed clinician through Spring Health.

Responsibilities
- Utilize the latest editing and photography tools and software to tell great stories
- Produce compelling, emotional, original content for broadcast and digital platforms
- Use creative story-telling techniques (graphics, lighting, photography, etc.) to enhance stories
- Be capable of covering, in a professional manner, a wide range of news topics, including breaking, general, sports, feature, investigative, and political stories
- Participate in daily editorial meetings by pitching strong, enterprise stories
- Maintain professional broadcasting equipment in clean, working order
- Safely operate news vehicles in a variety of locations and terrain, and operate live video technology
- Perform other tasks as required by management
- 1-3 years of broadcasting experience preferred
- Knowledge of professional news gathering, editing, and content management systems
- Ability to demonstrate creativity in daily assignments
- Proficiency in professional social media engagement
- Demonstrated news judgment, photography experience, and non-linear editing skills
- Must be punctual, dependable, and flexible with schedule
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including mornings, nights, holidays and weekends
- An understanding of the tenants of professional ethical journalism
- Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure and deadlines
- Experience with Edius editing software and Dejero live units a plus, but not required.
- Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs. and occasionally up to 80 lbs. with or without an accommodation
- Current driver’s license and ability to operate news-gathering vehicle to and from various locations
