In this role, you will assist cell assembly processes, lab maintenance, and some aspects of battery characterization to support our cell technology development.

You will work alongside engineers to improve assembly methodologies, maintain lab equipment, and ensure that processes in cell assembly and characterization are carried out efficiently.

This Is What You'll Do

  • Support the Advanced Cell Development Laboratory by assisting in the management of cell assembly, testing and characterization processes, ensuring efficient lab operation.
  • Assist engineers with cell assembly and analysis tasks, including equipment set-up, electrode preparation, cell test, and basic powder characterization.
  • Help manage and maintain lab equipment, ensuring readiness for testing and analysis activities, as well as troubleshooting basic issues.
  • Monitor lab operations to ensure smooth functionality and collaborate with engineers to address any challenges that arise with testing or equipment performance.
  • Support lab maintenance tasks, including managing calibration schedules, equipment upkeep, and enforcing lab safety protocols.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to battery characterization, testing, and lab management to improve workflow efficiency.
  • Collaborate with engineers to support diagnostics and troubleshooting of testing equipment, reporting issues for further investigation and resolution.
  • Foster collaboration within the cross-functional team and contribute to Rivian's core values.

This Is What You'll Need

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree with some experience as a technician, preferably in cell assembly, battery characterization, or lab maintenance.
  • Basic understanding of routine cell assembly, testing, and characterization tasks, with experience in general lab operations being beneficial.
  • Familiarity with setting-up lab equipment and utilities, such as glove box, fume hood, as well as testing equipment like battery cyclers and temperature chambers.
  • Hands-on experience performing routine tasks in a battery laboratory, with an understanding of standard safety protocols and equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to assist engineers in handling routine assembly and testing schedules, and support troubleshooting of basic issues during cell assembly or testing processes.
  • Strong organizational skills to assist with day-to-day tasks related to assembly, testing, and lab maintenance, ensuring consistency in workflow and communication of progress.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to help with routine reporting and collaboration with cross-functional teams on basic lab and assembly tasks.
