Job Description Summary

The Planning Manager, Snacks, is responsible for creating long-term capacity plans for snack production lines and developing strategies to optimize cost, service, flexibility, and responsiveness. This role involves assessing capacity needs for innovation and cost efficiency, overseeing production scheduling and material ordering, and ensuring high fill rates, minimal back orders, and aligned inventory levels. Additionally, the manager drives continuous improvement in planning and scheduling processes, reduces obsolescence, and develops team skills and engagement.

Essential Functions

  • Develop long range/rough cut capacity plans on our snacks production lines
  • Working with the plant to develop an operating strategy and production sequence that sets us up in the sweet spot on cost, service, flexibility and responsiveness
  • Assessing capacity needs and plans in support of innovation and cost optimization
  • Overseeing the planners at the Waukegan site that sequence/schedule production, order materials in support of production and deploy product to the forward DC’s in the network so that:
    • Fill rate is over 99% to top 10 customers and over 98% to all other
    • Back order levels are at or near ZERO
    • Inventory levels are in line with the company cash conversion plan
    • Product transitions and conversions are done to maximize service and minimize obsolescence
    • Overall obsolescence in minimized in-line with budget
  • Driving continuous improvement in planning and scheduling processes re: the tools used to plan, set safety stock, deploy inventory, release materials and improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of the process
  • Developing team members skills and maintaining engagement

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

  • 7-10 years of Supply Chain experience
  • Small company experience is valued & Consumer products experience preferred.
  • Enterprise Resource Planning experience required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically strong in Excel.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain/Logistics preferred. Commensurate skills accepted in lieu of degree.

Critical Skills / Personal Attributes

  • Travel: must be able to travel at least 1 week per month if needed, with potential for additional travel during the on-boarding process.
  • Data and analytics – experience personally building dashboards to regularly assess operational performance and identify loss recovery opportunities
