Your Role on the Team

Athletic Academic Coordinator will report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director, Academic & Student Services and will perform limited range of counseling and advising targeted to student athletes while working in conjunction with Academic Advisors from respective academic units on campus. Staff member will monitor satisfactory academic progress of student-athletes and provide academic reports by sport on a weekly basis to respective coaches for assigned programs as well as on a quarterly basis in alignment with university progress in conjunction with Compliance and NCAA Certification Officer. Athletic Academic Coordinator will be knowledgeable with NCAA Academic Rules as well as university academic policies and procedures.

Assists student-athletes in developing problem-solving, self-management, and organization skills. Provides students with test preparation techniques and strategies. Assumes liaison responsibility by regularly communicating with Coaching Staff, Campus Academic Advisors, Admissions, and other campus groups as assigned. Provides general academic counseling across disciplines, colleges, and schools to all student-athletes.

Facilitates small group discussion sessions by conducting team meetings as appropriate to review academic guidelines and procedures. Available to the general student-athlete population for “drop-in” consultation and/or referral to appropriate support services. Advocates on behalf of student-athlete concerns with the appropriate campus resource. Assist other members of Student Services with Student Athlete Development Programming including but not limited to Life Skills Programs, tutoring, Study Table, Mental Health and overall Student Athlete wellbeing.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $28.07- $28.73 (Hourly).

Required

  • Knowledge of University, college, and major requirements, policies and procedures, including policies on handling student records and confidential documents.
  • Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement.
  • Knowledge of personal growth and development areas, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership.
  • Knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development.
  • Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education.
  • Knowledge and experience in analyzing problems and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs.
  • Familiarity with research methodologies and research designs.
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • 1-3 years Experience working/interning in college academic services

Preferred

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services.
  • Master's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
