WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Department of General Services (DGS) Automation Program seeks a highly skilled and experienced professional to join the DGS Information Technology team as a Sr. IT Specialist under the supervision of the Information Technology Supervisor. This position provides technology solutions to develop and maintain information systems to support the Department's business operations. The Sr. IT Specialist is responsible for the purchase and maintenance of IT equipment and hardware, service, and support for major end-user systems on a County-wide basis. The position is responsible for managing all major and minor IT projects that involve new systems implementation, system upgrades and migrations. The position provides guidance to junior IT staff and provides leadership to serve the department's needs. In addition, this position manages DGS's existing IT applications (in-house and third party), databases, systems, and department websites. This position coordinates with the Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions (TEBS) to resolve system and user issues.

What You'll Be Doing

The Sr. IT Specialist is responsible for the following:

  • Application Development: Lead all application development efforts from architecture and database design to testing\user testing, deployment and documentation. Work with users on troubleshooting application bugs and performance issues.
  • Reports Development: Develop and design reports and dashboards for the various business requirements.
  • Automation: Work with department users to automate business processes.
  • Integration: Work on application integration with other DGS IT members and TEBS.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Draft process documentation and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Review and evaluate current processes and make recommendations for improvement to IT Supervisor.
  • Use appropriate automation technologies to automate business processes as needed.
  • Maintain inventory of all DGS hardware.
  • Maintain and update log of hardware assignments to employees.
  • Recommend purchase needs to IT Supervisor.
  • Respond to DGS employee requests and issues.
  • Set up new employee workstations with necessary hardware (computer, cell phone, docking station, keyboard, mouse).
  • Integrate new employees into DGS systems and provide access.
  • Troubleshoot issues within DGS systems.
  • Escalate issues to the IT supervisor or TEBS.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Experience: Five (5) years of professional experience in the information technology field in areas such as programming, systems analysis, and data/telecommunications, depending on the duties of the position.

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college or university, or certifications in specific programming languages or operating systems may be required, depending on the duties of the position. Programming languages might include Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerBI Power Automate), SQL, etc.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. For

applicants possessing very hard to find skills which are a critical need to the department/agency, training and certification may be accepted in lieu of full degree requirements.

Preferred Qualifications include the following:

  • Knowledge and experience with Office 365 Suite, Power Platform (PowerApps, PowerBI, Power Automate), Database development using SQL, Asset Management System
  • Knowledge and experience with database programming and reports development
  • Knowledge and experience with all phases of application development
  • Knowledge and experience with web application development and maintenance
  • Knowledge and experience with Database and server administration/management
  • Knowledge and experience with of cloud applications and computing


Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

Interview preferences will be determined based on the following criteria:

  • Knowledge and experience with database development and reporting tools like PowerBI, SSRS, Crystal Reports
  • Knowledge and experience with MS Office365 Suite and Power Platform and other cloud technologies
  • Knowledge and experience with all phases of application development
  • Knowledge and experience with web application development and maintenance
  • Some knowledge and experience with Database and server administration/management
  • Some knowledge and experience with Asset\Fleet Management Systems
  • Oral and written communication skills
