Position Description

The Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, support and troubleshooting of Windows and Macintosh computer systems and peripherals across CCS. This position also works closely with and assists networking staff with projects and troubleshooting.

Position Accountabilities And Essential Functions

  • Install, Support, and Troubleshoot Computing Hardware: Provide comprehensive support for Windows and macOS platforms, including desktops, laptops, and peripherals for staff and students.
  • System Updates and Installations: Execute system updates, software installations, and hardware relocations as per organizational directives, both hands on and via management software.
  • Help Desk Support: Provide operational support for the College’s technology help desk, including ticket resolution, user support, and escalation of complex issues.
  • Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining accurate records of computer hardware and software inventory, ensuring compliance with asset management policies.
  • Documentation: Assist in developing and maintain procedural and user documentation, ensuring clarity and accessibility for end-users.
  • Additional Duties: Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in IT projects and initiatives.

Secondary Duties And Growth Opportunities

  • Server Administration: Assist in the administration of Windows and Linux servers, including user account management, system monitoring, and backup operations.
  • Network Maintenance: Assist in maintenance and administration of the College’s wired and wireless networks, including configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of network devices (e.g., routers, switches, access points).

Qualifications And Experience

  • Associate degree and/or 1-2 years relevant experience, bachelor degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Windows and Macintosh computers and operating software.
  • Working knowledge of networking and network operating systems.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • Experience with server administration a plus (Windows/Linux).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to maintain a stationary position, use a computer and other office equipment, and communicate effectively in person, by phone, and virtually. Frequent interaction with others, including staff, faculty, students and third parties is required. The employee may occasionally be required to move files or other objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including from low and high places. The ability to move around within the office and between buildings on campus, attend off-site meetings and events, and travel between Ford Campus site to Taubman Center site are required.
