The Senior AIX Systems Engineer is responsible for providing administration and support for IBM POWER running AIX and PowerHA clusters. This position interfaces with many cross-functional groups and levels within the organization, including database, storage, networking, application, and CI/CD teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the IBM AIX infrastructure in the on-premises datacenters
  • Assist with the migration of applications and databases running on AIX to the AWS cloud
  • Actively monitor and respond to system alerts generated by system management tools
  • Review systems performance metrics and alerts to ensure event correlation and trend analysis are performed on a regular basis.
  • Track and manage vendor support tickets, and work with respective teams to resolve urgent system issues, providing root-cause analysis when needed
  • Maintain an AIX and PowerHA patching cadence
  • Periodically upgrade firmware on POWER9, POWER10, and HMC hardware
  • Maintain documentation for systems infrastructure, procedures, workarounds, and known issues
  • Manage vendor licensing and maintain an accurate hardware and software inventory
  • Assist with capacity planning of storage and/or compute resources to support present and future initiatives
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and in system failover testing
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for level 3 support

Required:

  • Minimum 10 years of experience with IBM POWER, AIX, PowerHA, and NIM
  • Extensive knowledge in automating administration tasks using shell scripts and NIM
  • Have a full understanding of LVM and volume group limitations
  • Experience in supporting production-level environments
  • Strong working knowledge in scripting ksh and bash
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills

Preferred:

  • Experience configuring and supporting Apache, FTP, DNS, LDAP, WebSphere MQ, JBoss JEE, WebLogic, and Oracle Forms
  • Experience with Perl scripting
  • Working knowledge of network concepts and packet capture analysis
