Responsibilities
Peraton is currently seeking a Data Curation and Quality Control Specialist at Stennis Space Center in Mississippi. This position works on development of a database of global geological and geophysical properties as a part of a marine geology and geophysics team. These datasets are utilized in a variety of machine learning or modeling frameworks which will provide estimates of relevant information to a variety of Navy and external efforts. This detail-oriented role will play a critical part in sourcing, organizing, and structuring datasets that will form the foundation for database development.
This position will work as part of a research team formatting and curating a wide variety of 1-D, 2-D, and 3-D geological and geophysical datasets (e.g., CSV, PDF, SEG-Y, LAS, NETCDF) as a part of a Geology and Geophysics research group at the US Naval Reseach Laboratory. The work will involve harvesting valuable data from various sources, ensuring its accuracy, and formatting it for seamless integration into a database framework. This position offers an opportunity to develop expertise in data management, data curation, and contribute to impactful projects while working closely with a dynamic and collaborative research team.
Specific responsibilities include:
Identify and acquire relevant datasets from internal and external sources, verify the accuracy and completeness of data from various sources, detect and correct errors or inconsistencies in data including handling missing, duplicate, or outlier values in datasets.
Convert raw data into usable formats for database ingestion (e.g., formatting) while creating and/or maintaining metadata.
Use scripting languages (e.g., Python) to automate data cleaning and transformation processes.
Document scripts and reports (as needed) to outline data curation process, ensuring transparency and reproducibility.
Must be proficient in data management tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, R, and/or Python for data wrangling and manipulation).
Must have basic understanding of database structure and use

Secret Security Clearance Target Salary Range
$39,000 - $62,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
