Applied Research Engineer 1 in the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, this position reports to Prof. Jami Shah, and assists in DDML's (Digital Design & Manufacturing Lab )research objectives to study automated structural design automation and optimization; assists in Design of experiments, FE simulation with Ansys, Dyna and Data Science, automate parametric CAD models in Catia; build and execute APDL/Python macros or data curation; helps in preparing and presenting paper/reports; writes, assists in editing and/or approving progress and technical reports for sponsors; assists in editing research results for publication and presentation; assists in identifying, writing and preparing proposals to pursue new funding opportunities; collaborate in planning and coordinating meetings with governmental and industrial partners; creates optimized designs of automotive body components using advanced software (Catia, Ansys, Dyna, Autoform), virtual prototyping, no physical fabrication; The research will be part of a highly collaborative team, working on multiple research projects with GRAs and interns in DDML.

The target hiring range for this job profile is $26.49/hour to $34.81/hour. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limit to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.

Additional Information:

Required Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field of study

Desired Education

Advance Degree in Mechanical Engineering or

Required Experience

1-3 years of experience in CAD, Nonlinear explicit & implicit FEA, Python programming.

Desired Experience

Experience with CATIA GSD, ANSYS WB & APDL, LS-DYNA, Autoform, Python scripting for Ansys
