We have an exciting opportunity for a Systems Engineering Simulator Electrical/Hardware Engineer Tech to join the team with Nexus Solutions, a teammate company.

The Systems Engineer Simulator Electrical/Hardware Engineer Tech will:

  • Work directly with other spacecraft simulation lab engineers on multiple projects in the facility.
  • Support new equipment designs from conception, analysis, and manufacturing, through to operational test and deployment.
  • Provide design support and guidance in various aspects of Hardware/Electronics System Development.
  • Develop component test stand architectures for various components.
  • Design and generate electrical components and lab instrumentation system designs.
  • Perform electrical evaluation/selection of instrumentation for the different mockups and facilities in the SES.
  • Troubleshoot and repair existing systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic components down to the board level.
  • Conduct analog and digital printed circuit board design for various application needs.
  • Work with eCAD to develop printed circuit board designs.
  • Work in a laboratory environment, following standard operating procedures.
  • Perform cable runs using asbestos Class III Maintenance and Operations procedures within JSC buildings.
  • Design and fabricate parts in the SES fabrication shop. Have general knowledge of how to operate metal and wood cutting saws and machines.
  • Assist with assembly of large human-in-the-loop mockups as well as other lab and facility construction.
  • Perform other physical duties as required. Must be capable of handling 40-pound loads, climbing ladders, using a half mask respirator, and have full color spectrum visual capabilities to adjust the properly evaluate and adjust the many visual displays of a simulator laboratory.

Requisition Qualifications:


    This position has been posted at multiple levels. Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

    • Typically requires a HS diploma and 5 years of experience or BS in Engineering Technology or related field.
    • Experience with electrical schematic entry and printed circuit board layout tools such as Altium Designer.
    • Experience with microcontroller circuitry design and associated embedded software development environments.
    • Experience with AutoCAD and/or Pro-E or some other drawing tool.

    Preferences:

    • Familiarity with data interface protocols and associated hardware such as Ethernet, RS232, RS422, RS485, I2C, SPI etc.
    • Experience with test hardware such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, logic analyzers, function generators, electronic load banks, power supplies, power analyzers.
    • Experience with FPGA circuitry design and coding in associated VHDL development environments.
    • Experience with cable design.
    • Experience in design and test of analog instrumentation systems.
    • Proficient in MS Office programs, particularly MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
    • Experience working with fabrication shop machinery and tooling.

    Essential Functions

    Work Environment

    Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

    Physical Requirements

    Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

    Attendance

    Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
