This job contributes to Starbucks success by providing technical expertise in manufacturing and maintenance operations within the roasting plant.

As a plant operations specialist, you will:

  • Evaluate plant operational improvement needs. Recommend and implement technical strategies to ensure successful improvement of processes and productivity.



  • Engage cross-functional partners to analyze and solve complex problems and support technical initiatives.



  • Communicate with internal and external contacts regarding details to successfully delivery assigned project objectives.



  • Own and drive equipment design changes for safer and more reliable operation.


o Must have ability to perform design change recommendations by showing calculations and research data to support necessary modifications.
o Must possess excellent communication skills to deliver design changes to engineering, maintenance, and manufacturing teams.
o Experience with technical design, CAD and Solid Works is preferred.

  • Champion Predictive Maintenance Program


o Vibration analysis
o Thermal Imaging
o Ultrasonic air leak detection
o Oil analysis
Drive actions from predictive maintenance data review.

  • Develop procedures and reference materials in support of data-driven preventive maintenance (PM) strategies.



  • Communicate with internal and external parties to ensure current and accurate support documentation on hand.



  • Partner with maintenance planner in support of plant-wide systems and assets - CMMS management.



  • Align with network Reliability team in support of network maintenance program strategy.



  • Identify equipment criticality to ensure proper PM frequency and scope.



  • Audit plant PM schedules, scope, EAM system/asset hierarchy, PM effectiveness, and documentation accuracy.



  • Serve as plant liaison related to network maintenance initiatives.



  • Build support among partners for tactical initiatives.



  • Serve as a technical resource within plant environment with respect to processes, systems, and equipment.

  • Train partners to use new processes, systems, and equipment.



  • Make recommendations for effective utilization and deployment of equipment.



  • Support system installation projects.



  • Provide education, guidance, and mentorship to mechanics and operators in support of preventive and predictive maintenance practices.



  • Train partners on network changes and improvements to CMMS



  • Partner with learning specialists to develop department-specific training modules for maintenance and operations.



  • Develop training and reference material for individual assets using internal and external SMEs.



  • Identify and eliminate knowledge and skill gaps.



  • Communicate to partners and stakeholders regarding changes and upgrades to plant systems and assets.

  • Engineering degree preferred or equivalent experience (4 Years) in similar field.



  • Data analysis 3 years

  • Familiarity with food safety regulatory requirements and global standards including Preventive Controls for Human Food (21 CFR 117) and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). Experience with BRC or SQF certification schemes.

*If you are working in CA, CO, IL, LA, ME, MA, NE, ND or RI, you will accrue vacation up to a maximum of 120 hours (190 in CA) for roles below director and 200 hours (316 in CA) for roles at director or above. For roles in other states, you will be granted vacation time starting at 120 hours annually for roles below director and 200 hours annually for roles director and above.
The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
