Role Snapshot

The Internship Program with WPS Health Solutions is comprised of four key components. WPS interns will primarily focus on the responsibilities within their functional areas, as it relates to their respective field of study. In a group setting, interns will collaborate on the “Pay-It-Forward Project” – the development of a resource to be utilized for future program participants. The third component relates to exposure to corporate culture and training to aid in future career successes. At the conclusion of the program, interns will participate in a final presentation for senior executives by showcasing their experience in the program and functional areas.

The GHA Government Services - CMS InSight Data Analysis Team delivers better, faster, and more informed business decisions to stakeholders by finding the optimal intersection between Medicare’s “big data”, data analysis, and modeling to fit customer needs.

What You Will Do As a Data Analyst Intern

  • Learn about Medicare and health insurance claims, including claim, provider, and beneficiary detailed information, how they related to each other, and how the claims process in payment systems.
  • Gain access to the One PI Medicare claims database with specialized training regarding database structure, commonly used variables, and querying best practices.
  • Perform ad hoc data requests for operational areas and their Medicare contract requirements.
  • Participate in quality assurance reviews of peer data requests.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Be currently pursuing a degree in higher education or recent graduate.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Healthcare Informatics, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field.
  • Have experience with Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Have experience with business intelligence/analytic tools or programming languages used to interpret results and summarization for presentations. Examples of these are SQL, R, Python, SAS, SAP Business Objects, or Power BI.
  • Experience with Medicare, Medicaid, TRICARE, VA, or Healthcare claims.
  • Exposure to evaluation of clinical or business processes.
  • Professional healthcare analytics experience.

Hourly Rate of Pay

  • The base pay offered for this position may vary within the posted range based on your job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The starting hourly range for this position is $17-$24
