Senior Operations Research Scientist Data & AI Capability Atlanta, GA - Hybrid
Position Overview:
Expert Technical Solutions has an immediate opening for a Sr. Operations Research Scientist with one of our premier clients in Atlanta, GA. This is a full-time, permanent position with a Hybrid work schedule 2 days/wk in the office. We have locations in downtown Atlanta, Kennesaw, and Alpharetta and are open to candidates working in any of these offices.
We are seeking a Senior Operations Research Scientist to join our Data and AI team. In this role, you will collaborate with product managers, engineers, and clients to solve complex business challenges, develop optimization models, and drive data-driven solutions from concept to production.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Partner with product managers and clients to deeply understand the business problem at hand.
  • Formulate hypotheses to address identified challenges and propose innovative solutions.
  • Identify relevant data sources and work closely with data engineers and analysts to procure and validate data.
  • Collaborate with scientists, analysts, and AI experts to enhance modeling and analysis.
  • Design and recommend suitable modeling strategies and application approaches.
  • Analyze data for completeness, quality, and usability.
  • Evaluate models for accuracy, scalability, and alignment with user experience goals.
  • Work with product managers to present results and contribute to the product roadmap, including new features.
  • Collaborate with developers and platform teams to operationalize models and integrate them into production systems.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Advanced degree (Master s or PhD) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience developing and deploying advanced optimization models outside of a research/college role.
    • Expertise in mathematical optimization and problem decomposition.
    • Proficiency with solvers such as Gurobi, CPLEX, Xpress, or open-source alternatives like GLPK, lp_solve, and MIPCL.
    • Strong programming skills in Python, Java, or C++ in collaborative production environments.
    • Advanced knowledge of scheduling and routing optimization challenges.
    • Proven ability to rapidly develop proof of concepts and scale them to production-ready solutions.
    • Practical experience with data preparation, modeling, and methodologies (classification, regression, clustering, causal modeling).
    • Solid understanding of stochastic processes and uncertainty modeling.
    • Experience working with Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP), nonlinear, and quadratic programming models.
Preferred Skills:
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure for software development.
  • Strong AI experience with a vision for how AI can enhance optimization solutions.
  • Research-oriented mindset with the ability to rapidly prototype and test new concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with both Gurobi and open-source solvers (e.g., GLPK, lp_solve, MIPCL).
  • Extensive experience with scheduling and routing optimization.
