Job Overview:
Our client, a major financial services corporation in Phoenix, AZ is seeking a skilled Kubernetes Administrator with 3+ years of hands-on experience to manage and optimize the Kubernetes infrastructure within their platform team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for deploying, managing, and scaling Kubernetes clusters across cloud and on-premises environments. You will work closely with DevOps, development, and operations teams to ensure smooth and secure operation of containerized workloads and applications, optimizing performance, scalability, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Kubernetes Cluster Management:
    • Install, configure, and manage Kubernetes clusters across multiple environments (cloud and on-premises).
    • Ensure the availability, scalability, and security of Kubernetes environments.
    • Monitor and manage the health and performance of Kubernetes clusters using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and Kubernetes Dashboard.
    • Perform cluster upgrades, patch management, and other lifecycle management tasks for Kubernetes environments.
  • Container Management & Orchestration:
    • Deploy, manage, and optimize containerized applications using Kubernetes and associated technologies like Docker.
    • Manage Helm charts for deploying applications to Kubernetes, ensuring the standardization and automation of deployments.
    • Implement and manage service mesh technologies like Istio or Linkerd for secure, observable service communication within the Kubernetes cluster.
  • CI/CD Integration:
    • Integrate Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab, or ArgoCD for automated application deployment and updates.
    • Ensure seamless application updates and rollbacks through effective use of Kubernetes features like rolling updates and blue-green deployments.
  • Security & Compliance:
    • Implement Kubernetes security best practices, including managing role-based access control (RBAC), network policies, and secrets management.
    • Ensure the security and compliance of Kubernetes clusters, monitoring for potential vulnerabilities and applying appropriate patches.
    • Manage TLS certificates, configure secure communication within clusters, and implement pod security policies.
  • Troubleshooting & Performance Optimization:
    • Identify and resolve issues related to Kubernetes cluster performance, including scaling challenges, resource contention, and bottlenecks.
    • Work with teams to troubleshoot application and infrastructure issues within the Kubernetes environment.
    • Optimize Kubernetes cluster resources to improve performance and cost efficiency.
  • Monitoring & Alerts:
    • Set up and manage monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack for comprehensive visibility into cluster and application performance.
    • Configure alerting for critical events, failures, or performance degradation within the cluster.

Required Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in administering Kubernetes environments in production.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes and associated technologies like Docker and Helm.
  • Hands-on experience with CI/CD integration tools such as Jenkins, GitLab, ArgoCD, etc.
  • Strong knowledge of Kubernetes networking, service discovery, ingress controllers, and load balancers.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure in relation to Kubernetes deployments.
  • Experience with monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and the ELK Stack.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Linkerd.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes security best practices, including RBAC, network policies, and pod security.
  • Experience with Kubernetes automation using infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with managing Kubernetes clusters in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
  • Experience with autoscaling, horizontal pod autoscaling, and cluster autoscaler for scaling workloads dynamically.
