The opportunity

Give structure to understand and communicate facades concepts / ideas - sketching, reports, sketchbooks, spreadsheets, and analyses for discussion with Architects and Clients.

Engage teams of architects and engineers focused on the 3-D modeling (geometrical and detailing) of complex facades.

Carry out structural, thermal, and solar, and thermal/visual comfort modeling of building enclosure details and systems

Utilize advanced analysis programs and techniques (finite element) to understand building envelope physics and faade design

Undertake engineering faade calculations with various materials, including structural glass, aluminum, stainless steel, wood, stone, and precast concrete

Produce details and drawings using various 2-D and 3-D CAD and graphics packages

Perform technical reviews of shop drawings and construction administration submittals to ensure air, water, thermal, seismic, acoustic, visual, whole-life carbon, and structural performance.

Interpret specifications and design documents and write reports summarizing conditions.

Carry out mock-up, factory and field inspections and investigations.

Pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or related Science discipline

Core interest in the faade industry with emphasis on detailing, and engineering, and sustainability

Good sketching skills and an ability to communicate thoughts and technical ideas in an accessible and visual way

Candidate must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future.

Coursework in faade engineering / building envelope physics / energy/thermal modeling skills / sustainability preferred

Structural software skills, AutoCAD skills, 3-D modeling skills (Rhino, Revit, etc.)preferred

Internship experience with a design firmpreferred

FE/EIT certificationpreferred

Membership in ASHRAE, ASME, ASCE, or Society of Facade Engineering preferred

LEED accreditation preferred

Los Angeles Hiring Range - The good faith base salary hiring range for this job if performed in Los Angeles is $23.50 to $35 per hour. This range is commensurate with experience, educational background, and skill level. Benefits are not included in the base salary. Please note hiring ranges for candidates performing work outside of Los Angeles, CA will differ.
