Reporting to the Manager, Help Desk, this position provides technical support and implements timely resolution that vary in scope and complexity. As a member of the Help Desk staff that participates in the cross-functional computer lab support, this position is responsible for providing quality computing support to both staff and computer labs in a blended (Mac and PC) environment. The incumbent performs thorough problem analysis, records requests for support, provides solutions, or routes problems to third level Technology personnel (or vendors) as required.

This is an on-site full-time position with a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. The position may require flexibility to work a staggered, remote or alternate schedule to meet the demands of the work, which could include weekends or evenings.

Essential Functions
Technical Duties - 95%
  • Provide technical support for Staff, Students, Faculty, and Computer Labs; drive resolution of desktop problems, printer errors, account management, network/Internet access issues, as well as application interface issues; document resolution for future reference
  • Assist and provide support to the Technical Support analysts
  • Analyze and research technical issues and provides accurate and expeditious resolution; consult peers, review technical articles, and/or engage vendors to address problems until resolution
  • Report common failures, trends, and issues; modify hardware and software configurations to maintain a robust client technology platform; provide basic orientation/training to end users, and advises them on best practices
  • Work with colleagues in the Computer Labs to deploy PC and Mac workstation images each term, using various imaging utilities
  • Provide base support to students and faculty in the Computer Labs to ensure they can maximize the use of the labs, including software access, network access, and printing
  • Actively participate in planning, testing, and deploying new client-centric technologies, including upgrades to and replacement of existing Mac and PC-based software and hardware, and incorporation of new software/tools/devices.
  • Help maintain orderliness of computer labs and assist students in adhering to the lab usage policies
  • Adhere to asset management policies and procedures to tag, track and manage all desktop assets; assist supervisor to conduct periodic audits of all technology assets across campus
  • Use our HALO ticketing system to assign, email, route tickets to 2nd Tier support and document resolution for future reference.
  • Assist in creating, editing, and maintaining instructional videos for the IT video library.

  • Maintain memberships and active involvement in applicable professional organizations
  • Serve on educational or college-wide committees, work groups, task forces and/or councils

Required Qualifications:
  • 2-year technical education or associate's degree, or any equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Minimum 4 years hands-on experience supporting clients in a complex, multi-platform environment
  • Excellent communications and customer service skills to work effectively with staff, faculty and students
  • Must be resourceful, adaptable, teamwork focused, with the ability to work independently
  • In-depth technical knowledge of desktop Operating Systems and common office productivity software such as MS Office
  • Solid understanding of consumer mobile devices such as cell phones and tablets
  • Comprehensive knowledge of image deployment practices and tools, such as Symantec Ghost, Universal Imaging Utility, and DeployStudio
  • Knowledge of basic networking and client/server concepts
  • Working knowledge of creative software titles such as Adobe CS, Maya, 3ds Max, Rhino, and Cinema 4D
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced office and multiple projects
  • Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated experience in cultivating the values of diversity, equity, inclusion, access and belonging into work practices and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within ArtCenter's diverse communities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or associate degree in Information Systems or related field from an accredited college or university
  • Experience in Higher Education

Environment: Work is performed primarily in standard office and computer lab settings with frequent interruptions and distractions; extended periods of time viewing computer monitor; and interactions with other individuals. Due to the nature of the work environment, there is regular exposure to fumes, chemicals, dust and noise. Regular and consistent attendance are required for most positions; must be able to travel between campuses and to off-site locations.

Physical: Primary functions require ability to work in office and computer lab settings; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; ability to travel between and around campuses; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight (up to 20 pounds); to operate modern office and computer equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: Must be able to have the visual capacity to perform activities such as preparing and reading reports, viewing a computer terminal and working with small complex pieces mechanical items with or without correction.

Hearing: Must be able to communicate effectively in the course of normal business communication or exchange ideas with or without correction.
