Job Description

A remote contract-to-hire opportunity is available for a Systems Engineer with 5 or more years' experience providing application support in a Linux based cloud environment. The SE will install, and support customer applications based on WebSphere and OpenShift in accordance with NIST and ISO security frameworks.

  • Prospective candidates must have excellent technical skills utilizing tools and utilities to install, troubleshoot, and resolve issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, teamwork, and deep technical understanding of IT system in a Linux environment are required.
  • All work is remote, and candidate must be physically based in the USA.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provision and support high-availability and complex IBM Applications.
    • Specifically, Maximo and TRIRIGA on WebSphere, and Maximo Application Suite (MAS) on OpenShift
  • Make recommendation for memory, CPU, and JVM clusters to support anticipated customer user and operational requirements.
  • Assist with testing, troubleshooting and problem remediation of system related issues.
  • Work within a tightly controlled change management environment
  • Perform routine Application administration tasks (Install, upgrade, patch, monitor).
  • Work effectively with internal security engineering team providing guidance, interpretation, and remediation of scanning results.
  • Ability to develop and interpret system architectures and data flow diagrams.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical information in both verbal and written format to non-technical project stakeholders.
  • Create technical documentation for application system architecture and system specification.
  • Collaboration with Cloud and Security engineering, Linux administrators, Cloud Architect.
  • Support Disaster Recovery and Incident Response testing/validation exercises.
  • Support 3PAO activities for Annual Assessments, Significant Change Events.


Skills and Experience Must Have:

  • 5+ yrs experience performing application support functions as described above
  • Demonstrated experience with server operating systems (Linux and Windows), but strong Redhat Linux experience.
  • Technical and analytical writing skills required.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills required.
  • Must be able to multi-task, work independently, but at the same time contribute and work effectively towards team objectives.


Skills and Experience (Should have some of the following):

  • Supporting Maximo, TRIRIGA, or MAS
  • Supporting RDBMS (DB2/Oracle)
  • Implementing SAML
  • Working in AWS or Azure
  • Supporting and participating in annual and significant change assessments with 3PAO.
  • Knowledge of basic network topology (ipv4, subnets, gateways, routing tables)
  • Knowledge of security related activities involving system/network hardening, PENTEST, IDS, VPN, Load Balancers, Virtualization (hypervisors, virtual machines, provisioning), Enterprise Backup/Recovery, DR/COOP, High Availability, DNS, LDAP, SSO, SSL, FTP, Web Services
  • Ansible, Rundeck, Bash


Education and Credentials:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, MIS, or equivalent
    • Education can be substituted by sufficient experience.
  • Experience as an SE with 5+ years of experience in Cloud Operations and Administration
  • Must be able to pass security background check.
  • IBM Maximo/TRIRIGA/MAS certifications (extra credit)
  • AWS/Azure certifications (extra credit)
