The IT Systems Administrator/Senior IT Systems Administrator will lead and perform a wide range of highly technical duties associated with the advanced administration, design, implementation, maintenance, and support of the hybrid IT Systems infrastructure and services. This includes, but is not limited to, on-premises data center infrastructure and public cloud platform solutions to assure optimal performance, high availability, and security.

NOTE: For recruitment purposes, this job opening is being posted as a Systems Administrator or Senior Systems Administrator. Candidates will be considered for the highest level for which they qualify. The career progression of Systems Administrator is a Senior Systems Administrator.
  • IT Systems Administrator: the anticipated hiring range will be $80,200 - $104,155 annually depending on education and experience.
  • Senior IT Systems Administrator: the anticipated hiring range will be $97,042 - $126,085 annually depending on education and experience.

Duties

IT Systems Administrator:
  • Configures, implements, maintains, and supports cloud enterprise solutions on Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud. Optimizes cloud resources for cost-efficiency while ensuring performance and high availability.
  • Configures, implements, maintains, and supports the on-premises IT Systems infrastructure and services, ensuring efficient integration with cloud services.
  • Performs Tier 1 through Tier 3 technical support and troubleshooting of the on-premises and cloud IT Systems infrastructure and services to identify and resolve the root cause of failure or fault.
  • Applies and enforces County security policies, standards, and controls to secure systems from unauthorized access or usage. Performs maintenance and upgrades including operating system upgrades, updates, and security configurations to minimize security vulnerabilities and mitigate risks.
  • Implements and maintains backup and disaster recovery solutions for on-premises and cloud resources to safeguard business-critical information.
  • Monitors, tracks, and analyzes performance, utilization, usage trending and capacity to ensure performance, availability and reliability of on-premises and cloud infrastructure and services. Identifies opportunities for improving and/or increasing operational efficiency of the hybrid IT Systems.
  • Creates and maintains accurate and up-to-date procedural, process, administrative, and technical documentation.
  • Effectively collaborates and communicates with teammates, vendors, County staff, peer jurisdictions, and professional organizations.
Senior IT Systems Administrator:
All duties listed above, and:
  • Serves as a technical leader, including leading architectural design and technical road mapping for the on-premises and cloud IT Systems infrastructure and services, and providing technical guidance and mentorship to other less-experienced Systems Administrators.

Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
  • Proficiency in at least one major cloud platform: Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud. Proven high-level technical Knowledge of cloud computing, e.g. Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Software as a Service (SaaS), cloud migration and implementation, resource optimization, identity and access management (IAM), cloud monitoring and management tools, automation tools and scripting languages (e.g. Terraform, PowerShell), etc.
  • Proficiency in on-premises IT Systems infrastructure and services. Proven high-level technical knowledge of on-premises operations, e.g. data center hardware, server hardware, VMware virtualization, Windows Server and Linux operating systems, domain services, directory services, data storage solutions, multi-factor authentication (MFA), remote access, backup and replication, monitoring and logging tools (e.g. Microsoft System Center Operations Manager SCOM), etc. This includes the ability to install, test, monitor, maintain and troubleshoot.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Written skills include the ability to write technical documentation for fellow team members. Oral skills include ability to communicate technical concepts to a variety of audiences.
  • Expertise at working both independently to troubleshoot complex issues, and in a team-oriented environment to collaborate with teammates and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong ability to continue professional development and education to remain informed of current industry trends. Must be motivated and able to learn, understand and apply new technologies.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Minimum requirement is a high school diploma or GED.
  • IT Systems Administrator: At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Senior IT Systems Administrator: At least 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that satisfy the requirements of the job will be considered.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field and/or advanced industry coursework.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure, AWS, and/or Google Cloud are highly desirable.

Supplemental Information

Pre-Employment Additional Requirements:
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment testing which includes an acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) and background check.
  • Possession of a valid Class "R" Colorado Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within two weeks of appointment.
Post-Employment Requirements:
  • Will require fingerprinting and a Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) background check as well as successful completion of annual Colorado Justice Information System (CJIS) training.
  • Position is deemed essential, and incumbents must be available for winter storm and other emergency events.
  • Must be available to work on-call on a rotational basis requiring evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Must be able to work evenings, holidays, and weekends as business needs dictate.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is generally confined to a standard office environment and data center environment. This position is expected to work 75% remotely and 25% in the office. The hybrid work schedule may be modified per business needs.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
