About the Role:

Aquila is seeking an Technical Writer to join our team in supporting one of the country's premier defense research organizations. The technical writer will develop system level documentation and assembly and test procedures in partnership with technicians, engineers, and program managers.

There are a few requirements for the position:

  • Must be a U.S Citizen (Green Cards / Visas do not qualify)
  • Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background investigation and maintain a personal security clearance. (Aquila would sponsor you for the security clearance.)
  • Must be within commutable distance of Lexington, Massachusetts.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares, reviews, revises and maintains technical documents, including software and systems engineering, cyber security, system operations, testing, hardware, etc. Develops system level documentation and assembly and test procedures in partnership with technicians, engineers, and program managers. Prepares instruction manuals, how-to guides, journal articles, and other supporting documents to communicate complex and technical information more easily. Participates in project team meetings and project reviews as needed. Maintains document configuration control. Employs photos, diagrams, and tables to enhance technical content.

What You'll Bring:

  • The technical writer must be experienced in the needs of an engineering and fabrication environment, pay attention to detail, and work with a variety of interdisciplinary Staff to determine documentation needs and solutions that meet the rigorous criteria of the standards.
  • Minimum education requirements are a BS/BA with proven writing, copy editing and organizational skills.
  • The candidate should have ?ve or more years of experience in technical writing, three of which should include hardware documentation.
  • The candidate must be a self-starter and able to manage a diverse work load.
  • Computer skill requirements include MS Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, PowerPoint and Project.

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 2 years Presentation Design, Poster Design, Document Design, Technical Illustrations, and Photo Manipulation
  • 3 years Familiarity w/R&D/STEM content
  • 5 years Technical Writing
  • Strong customer service skills and communication
  • Strong Verbal and Written Communication
  • Time Management
  • 5 years Adobe software (Acrobat, InDesign)
  • 5 years MS Suite (Excel, ppt)
  • 5 years Copyediting
  • 5 years Report Editing & Layout

Location: Hybrid - Individual works from home or o?-site for a portion of their schedule and within a routinely commutable distance from the Lexington facility. The candidate should expect to be onsite 1-3 days a week but this will vary depending on project work.
