Job Summary:
We are seeking a Mechanical/Thermal Design Engineer with expertise in developing thermally and structurally challenging products for rugged environments. You will design advanced thermal and structural solutions for ruggedized single-board computers and other electronic devices, used primarily in conduction and convection-cooled environments, while also having knowledge of air flow through and liquid cooling techniques. This position offers the opportunity to work with a global team, leveraging best practices from international sites, and contributing to innovative designs for military and aerospace applications. Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and evaluate rugged electronic products for military and aerospace applications
Perform structural and thermal analysis to ensure compliance with stringent performance and environmental specifications
Create detailed CAD models and comprehensive drawing packages for component fabrication
Lead shock, vibration, and thermal testing to validate and optimize product designs
Support prototype builds, including first article inspections, ensuring accuracy and functionality
Collaborate closely with customers and vendors to ensure designs meet performance standards and customer specifications
Propose design strategies and establish key parameters for successful project execution
Contribute to a global team, sharing best practices across sites to drive continuous improvement
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering from an accredited institution
2+ years of professional mechanical design experience (internship or co-op experience also considered)
Desired Qualifications/Characteristics:
Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks), with strong mechanical design skills
Experience in thermal, flow, and structural analysis
Understanding of materials and processes used in rugged electronic packaging
Familiarity with shock, vibration, and thermal testing methods
Proactive problem-solver with the ability to work independently and make informed decisions with minimal supervision
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical information
A collaborative team player, capable of managing design and schedule targets within project constraints
Experience with air flow through and liquid cooling systems is highly desirable
