Sr. SoC Prototyping Engineer, Amazon Devices

The team that built the innovative Silicon IP AZ1 Neural Edge that is powering the latest generation of Echo devices is looking for a Sr. SoC Prototyping Engineer to continue to innovate on behalf of our customers. We are a part of Amazon Lab126 that revolutionized reading with our Kindle family of products and reimagined user experience through Echo and Alexa. As a Sr. SoC Prototyping Engineer, you will be part of a pre-silicon platform team responsible for delivering prototypes of custom SoCs for use in early SW development. In this role, you will be responsible for architecting, building and debugging a prototyping environment for custom SoCs using Synopsys HAPS. You will lead the design, build, bring-up and delivery of these prototypes by preparing SoC RTL for prototyping, deciding on external lab equipment / daughtercards, completing partitioning / timing closure and performing bring-up and debug activities.

You will work closely with multi-disciplinary groups including Product Design, Audio Technology, Computer Vision, Hardware Engineering, and Software Engineering, to define solutions that enable development of world-class hardware devices.

Key job responsibilities

- Deliver SoC level prototyping platforms, using Synopsys HAPS, for software teams

- Prepare SoC RTL & constraints for prototyping

- Work with SW teams to architect a SoC prototyping solution

- Perform partitioning, clock network design and timing closure of the SoC design using the Synopsys HAPS toolchain

- Write bring-up tests and debug to validate the platform

- Debug issues presented by SW teams using both CPU trace and probe debugging

- Manage HAPS lab and equipment including purchasing

- Communicate and work with team members across multiple disciplines

About the team

We are a new team, growing selectively, and central to all activities of our product development.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- BSEE, BSCS, or similar degree

- 7+ years of experience mapping complex SOC design into multi-FPGA prototyping platforms., e.g. Veloce, HAPS, Protium or other FPGA systems

- Strong FPGA model development expertise across all aspects of FPGA development cycle - Front-end, Back-end using FPGA tool flows like Synopsys Protocompiler, Xilinx Vivado

- Understanding of emulation/prototype/Silicon verification, test plan development and execution

- 7+ years of experience in in-circuit emulation, FPGA fast prototyping.

- Expertise in industry standard interfaces and bus protocols: PCI/USB/ETH/SPI/I2C/PCI-E/SPI/AXI/AMBA

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Masters/PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field

- Experience with ARM based SoCs

- Experience with standards based interfaces DDR / MIPI-CSI / USB / AXI / PCIe

- Experience debugging system-level issues across HW and SW

- Good programming in skills in one or more of Python / Perl / TCL

- Working experience with high performance industry standard buses like AMBA AXI4

- Experience with basic embedded software and ARM assembly code

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $143,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $247,600/year in our highest geographic market.
