Amazon Web Services (AWS) GSSO Ops Excellence team is seeking a highly skilled and experienced candidate to establish a robust data governance framework to ensure the effective management and utilization of the organization's data assets. In this role, you will collaborate with business units, IT teams, and data owners to develop and implement data policies, standards, and procedures that promote data quality, data sharing, and data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver, capable of identifying and addressing data quality issues, as well as driving continuous improvement in data management practices. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong people management skills, leading a team of data governance professionals and fostering a data-centric culture across the organization. He/She should be a strategic thinker with a keen understanding of data management principles and the ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in AWS platforms and services and possess strong leadership capabilities to work effectively with multiple teams across the organization.

Key job responsibilities

\tDevelop and implement data policies, standards, and procedures to ensure smooth and unified data sharing across the organization.

\tPartner with data subject matter experts (SMEs) to streamline data flows from business units and establish a consolidated enterprise data set.

\tContinuously collaborate with stakeholders and data owners to monitor and improve data quality.

\tIdentify and address data quality issues, driving initiatives to raise the bar on data accuracy, completeness, and reliability.

\tOversee the establishment and maintenance of a comprehensive Configuration Management Database (CMDB).

\tEnsure the CMDB serves as a single source of truth for all key data assets and their interdependencies.

\tEnsure that data governance initiatives are closely aligned with broader business objectives, delivering value across the organization by enabling more strategic data use.

\tImplement scalable and automated data governance and quality mechanisms that can grow with the organization and adapt to our evolving business needs

\tEnsure governance frameworks support advanced analytics, real-time data processing (where possible), AI/ML initiatives, and automation, enabling us to leverage data for smarter decision-making and operational efficiency

\tEnsure the governance framework is built to meet current and future regulatory requirements where required, including GDPR, CCPA, and other industry-specific compliance needs.

\tFoster a culture of data stewardship across the organization, empowering teams to take responsibility for maintaining data quality and governance

\tImplement centralized data cataloging solutions that enable easy access and discoverability of data assets across the organization, ensuring the right people have access to the right data at the right time

\tAdept in influencing without authority.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides a scalable cloud computing platform to companies globally. AWS Global Services (GS), formed in 2022, delivers customer success throughout the cloud adoption lifecycle. Our 25K+ employees and integrated offerings enable us to combine technology and human expertise to maximize and accelerate customer outcomes.

GS is comprised of four primary business units: 1) Global Services Security (GSS) provides security guidance and offerings, 2) Training & Certification (T&C) offers cloud skills training and certification, 3) Professional Services (ProServe) provides consulting and hands-on-keyboard services, and 4) Support and AWS Managed Services (Support) delivers 24/7 technical support and managed services.

GSSO enables integrated business support, product management, planning, and deal strategy for GS. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Strong background in data management, with at least 5+ years of relevant experience in data governance, data quality, and data architecture.

Ability to translate technical concepts into business-friendly language and drive data-driven decision-making.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders at all levels, from business leaders to technical teams.

Demonstrated experience in managing and leading cross-functional teams to drive data-related initiatives and projects.

In-depth understanding of data management principles, data quality management, and configuration management best practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Collaborative mindset and the ability to foster a data-driven culture within the organization.

Strong project management skills, with the capability to prioritize tasks, manage timelines, and deliver outcomes.

Knowledge of relevant data governance and data management frameworks, such as DAMA, DCAM, or COBIT, is highly desirable.

Proficiency in analyzing data, identifying data quality issues, and developing remediation strategies.

Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the capacity to navigate complex organizational dynamics.

Proven track record of successfully implementing enterprise-wide data governance frameworks and policies.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $157,800/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
