The Test Systems Engineering Team is an agile hardware testing group working across both Vehicle and Energy programs. The team provides turnkey test solutions, collaborating with various groups from research and development through to manufacturing test. The team leverages Tesla's own products and technologies to create innovative test solutions that expedite R&D and validation cycle times, reducing both cost and complexity. These solutions include motor, powertrain, and all-wheel drive dynamometers, high-power bidirectional AC and DC sources, in house coolers, grid simulators, data acquisition, and advanced software control systems. This function operates at the heart of Tesla's core technologies.

The team is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Senior Electronic Design Engineer to join us in our mission. In this role, you will leverage Tesla's technologies (battery management system, high-power bidirectional AC-DC and DC-DC converters, motor/powertrain/chassis dynamometers, inverters, data acquisition, etc.) and develop end-to-end hardware test solutions. These solutions will be integrated with the final test system or equipment and will require close collaboration with cross-functional groups within TSE and end-users across Tesla. You will have the opportunity to work on various parts of the system and wear multiple hats, from designing system architecture to test automation and debugging/commissioning systems in the field.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their design and aesthetics, hands-on work, analytical ability, communication skills and attention to details. A typical day of work includes working with multidisciplinary and cross functional groups through the design cycles to refine and implement the product specification targets.

  • Develop product specifications and break down requirements into a detailed execution plan
  • Perform bench testing on electrical designs to validate all features meet specifications
  • Create high quality schematics and drawing packages and manufacturing instructions for parts and assemblies

Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on PCBA design engineering experience
  • Proficiency with electronic design software such as Altium, LTspice, etc.
