Job Summary
The Roy Lab at the Moran Eye Center at the University of Utah is seeking a motivated postdoc to work on an NIH funded project aimed at studying the mechanisms of visual signaling in a cone-dominated retina. The project focuses on studying the morphological, functional and genetic properties of retinal ganglion cells in the context of visual signaling in the retina and to the visual hubs in the brain. The work is part of a broader initiative to understand pathophysiology of glaucoma using animal models.
The lab utilizes different model systems (rodents and tree shrew) for studying retinal functions and disease pathology. The candidate will use techniques including but not limited to intraocular and intracranial injections, OCT , multielectrode array recoding from ex vivo retina, calcium fluorescence imaging, virus-vector based cell targeting, immunohistochemistry, large-scale data analysis, and computational modeling.
Successful applicant will have experience with animal work and performing procedures, and excellent experimental, problem solving and writing skills. The candidate will participate in various aspects of project development, implementation, and management. The candidate will oversee/participate in experimental design, data collection, and data analysis. The candidate is expected to work in collaborative projects with other labs, write grants, prepare manuscripts, and present research findings at scientific conferences. Activities for professional development and that lead toward independence are strongly encouraged.
This is a full-time position, with opportunities to work on both basic and translational projects. Salary for this position is based on NIH scale, commensurate with experience. Benefits are provided per the policies of the University of Utah.
