Summary

As an Advisor Database Administrator at Gainwell, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining databases for both in-house and third-party applications. You will lead efforts in database backup, recovery, performance tuning, and disaster recovery planning. Additionally, you will collaborate with application teams to optimize performance and provide technical leadership for migrations, database upgrades, and ongoing support. This is a remote role with on-call responsibilities, including after-hours support.

Your role in our mission

  • Design and build databases for in-house and third-party applications, managing disk layout and database creation.
  • Plan, set up, test, and troubleshoot database backup and restore processes, ensuring data protection and availability.
  • Lead disaster recovery efforts by setting up, testing, and executing database recovery plans.
  • Refresh test environments by extracting and loading data from production databases.
  • Manage technical refreshes, DBMS software updates, and hardware migrations to new locations.
  • Implement data archiving and purging processes for partitioned and non-partitioned tables.
  • Work with application developers to design data models and manage database object changes from test to production environments.


What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Nine or more years of experience in data/database architecture.
  • Strong knowledge of database structure differences (e.g., transaction-based vs. data warehouse).
  • Familiarity with relevant software packages or classes of packages within technical expertise.
  • Strong project planning, communication, and leadership skills with the ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Requires availability for on-call support, including after-hours and weekend work.


What you should expect in this role

  • Lead database performance tuning efforts and manage capacity planning and security.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities for production support, including after-hours work.
  • Apply Oracle upgrades, release patches, and manage database replication with tools like Golden Gate or Data Guard (preferred).
  • Collaborate with the application team to optimize SQL statements and participate in code walkthroughs.
  • Fully remote position with the flexibility to work from home.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for database support processes and activities.

The pay range for this position is $90,900.00 - $129,900.00 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
