Position Summary

This Quality Assurance Manager will be responsible for developing and executing broad quality and food safety policies and processes. On a tactical level, this position will focus on opportunities to improve quality and enhance food safety.

Essential Functions Statement:

  • Responsible for implementing, reviewing and maintaining the facility BRC food safety management system.
  • Manage the facility HACCP, HARP, and all prerequisite and validation programs required by FSMA and the BRC scheme.
  • Administer the BRC training program, including training and verification
  • Support operations and quality personnel in the application and compliance monitoring of BRC, environmental, health, safety and quality requirements
  • Facilitate Food Safety Committee and HACCP team meetings
  • Lead BRC Certification, customer regulatory/quality and agency audits.
  • Identify conditions and practices that could lead to injury, property damage, chemical release, business interruption or non-compliance.
  • Investigate injuries and safety nonconformance alongside HR Business Partner to determine root cause and corrective action
  • Coordinate facility Management of Change reviews for all new and modified products and processes, including HACCP and risk analysis studies.
  • Understand the company's current quality and food safety practices and procedures. Assess and evaluate existing and proposed quality and risk mitigation.
  • Partner with the manufacturing system to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Oversee customer complaint program.
  • Conducts self-inspections on a monthly basis, documents and brings about corrective actions as needed.
  • Keeps other managers abreast of new regulations, concepts, and quality standards.
  • Work closely with operations on specific quality and food safety related activities.
  • Addresses Sanitation and GMP deviations on an immediate and ongoing basis and assists in training and development of production personnel in these key areas.
  • Develop and cultivate constructive relationships with regulatory and certification bodies such as AIB and the FDA.
  • Oversee the Bakery Sanitation Department.

Competency Statement

  • Extensive knowledge of quality and food safety methods and techniques, quality assurance standards, food laboratory testing methods and operations, and statistical process control techniques
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory compliance FDA, HACCP, SQF
  • - Lead the internal Safe Quality Food (SQF) accreditation.

  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form for safety, reporting and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to add, subtract, and divide using whole numbers and decimals.
  • Have a working understanding of units of measure in grams, ounces, and pounds, including decimals. Shall have the ability to add and subtract the units of time, e.g. days, hours, and minutes.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has supervisory responsibilities of the Quality Assurance and the Sanitation departments. This position will be required to train new employees, employees who change job classifications, and/or assist with any other training that may be required. Communicates with the following departments: Plant Manager and Upper Management regarding any product quality, inventory, discrepancies, or safety issues within the scope of this position.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a Full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shift may change in accordance with business needs. Exempt employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require.

Education: Bachelor's degree in related field

Experience: 5+ years' experience in food technology, food science, or food industry; Previous experience with plant audits/inspections including customer, 3rd party and governmental.

Computer Skills: Advanced Microsoft Suite skills.
