Location: Glendale, AZ

Reports to: Manager, Player Development

As we look ahead to the forthcoming season, we are sourcing candidates for the role of Assistant, Baseball Technology based at our Spring Training/Minor League training complex, Camelback Ranch, in Glendale, AZ. We’re seeking a curious, creative, and hard-working individual, who will use the opportunity to learn, develop, and innovate with the potential to become a long-term member of our team. This person should have interest in applying technology and biomechanical information to coaching and Player Development. This role will gain exposure to our Player Development processes, our Performance Lab, coaching staff, and players. We see the potential for this person to grow into an important bridge between our on-field staff, players, and technology. As such, we hope to find a candidate with strong interpersonal communication skills, the empathy and cultural competency to relate to people from a range of cultural and educational backgrounds, and an ability to make the complex simple. The ideal candidate is available to work full-time hours during the season (February-October) with night and weekend availability; flexibility to adapt to game schedule as needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Operation of various technologies including but not limited to:
    • Hawk-Eye
    • Trackman
    • Portable Trackman
    • Virtual Reality
  • Assist in Performance Lab, operating and finding innovative ways to leverage technology for player improvement in coaching, such as:
    • Edgertronic
    • Force Plates
    • Motion Capture Systems
    • Bat Fitting
    • Trajekt
  • Compile and distribute daily Minor League game reports
  • Complete independent research project(s) over the course of the season, leveraging internal technologies, systems, and personnel
  • Support coaching staff and build strong working relationships with ACL coaches, rovers, and front office staff
  • Gain exposure to various areas of Player Development and explore areas for improving processes
  • Contribute to the CBR Operations, Video, Baseball Operations, Player Development, and Performance Science departments as assigned with tasks such as:
    • Player transport to/from airport, hotel, etc.
    • Review of Minor League and amateur pitch classifications
    • Assisting operation capture for internal software across pitching, hitting, and weight room activities
Basic Requirements/Qualifications

  • Ability to work full-time hours from February-October with night and weekend availability; flexibility to adapt to game schedule as needed.
  • Computer Skills: Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.) and basic troubleshooting ability. Coding (R or Python), Database Querying (SQL), or Data Visualization skills a plus.
  • Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence in English. Ability to write correspondence, both simple and complex, in English. Ability to communicate information effectively in one-on-one and small group settings with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Ability to speak and write Spanish preferred.
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to understand and carry out written or oral instructions of varying degrees of complexity. Ability to solve problems through logic and critical thinking.
  • Professional Experience: Experience coaching at the high school, facility, college or professional level is not required but a plus. Experience operating or familiarity with the above technologies is not required but a plus.
