The Phoenix Mercury is seeking a dynamic Data Analyst to join the team. The Data Analyst will play a critical role in supporting the coaching staff, trainers, and executives by providing timely and actionable data insights. This position is responsible for producing daily and weekly reports to help optimize team preparation, player care, and organizational decision-making. As the go-to source for coaching analytics and ad-hoc queries, you will ensure that all stakeholders have the information they need to make data-driven decisions efficiently. What You Will Do: Daily and Weekly Reporting:
Generate and maintain daily and weekly reports for coaching staff to enhance team preparation and player performance. Provide insights for the medical and training staff to monitor player health and workload, as well as assist executives in identifying trends, opportunities, and potential issues. Coaching Analytics Support:
Serve as the primary source for advanced statistics, player performance metrics, and opponent analysis to aid in game planning and strategy development. Ad-Hoc Analysis:
Handle one-off data requests from coaching, training, and executive teams, delivering rapid yet accurate analyses on tight timelines. Quick-Turn Taskers:
Address quick-turnaround tasks, such as post-game reports, injury trend analysis, or trade scenario modeling, ensuring stakeholders have relevant data when they need it. Data Integration:
Collaborate with the basketball analytics team to integrate various data sources (e.g., player tracking, biometric data, scouting reports) into a cohesive and comprehensive analysis framework. Collaboration with Stakeholders:
Work closely with coaches, trainers, and executives to understand their data needs and proactively offer solutions that help improve performance and decision-making across the organization. What We Need From Our Data Analyst, Phoenix Mercury:
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., SQL, Python, R) and experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong understanding of basketball statistics and key performance indicators.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work well under tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in basketball operations or with professional sports teams
  • Familiarity with advanced basketball metrics, player tracking technologies, and injury data analytics
  • Knowledge of coaching and game strategy, including familiarity with video and analysis software.

Experience/ Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in data science, statistics, sports analytics, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in data analysis, ideally within the sports industry or a fast-paced environment.
