The Opportunity:
Environmental field technician works under the guidance and supervision of the Senior Project Manager, Environmental. Their primary responsibility is to collect data and conduct fieldwork related to environmental assessments, monitoring, and restoration activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field assessments, and sampling activities in both the terrestrial and aquatic environments for a variety of projects in the Lower Mainland
  • Field work may involve fish and fish habitat assessments, wildlife and/or fish salvages, water quality assessments, bird nest surveys, ESC monitoring, Riparian Area Protection Regulation (RAPR) assessments.
  • In-office work may include assisting the Senior Project Manager, Environmental with the preparation and submission of permit applications and reports to the BC Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Fisheries and Oceans Canada for salvages, and notifications and/or approvals to the BC Ministry of Forests for works in and about a stream under the Water Sustainability Act
  • ESC monitoring, instream works monitoring.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to minimize risks during fieldwork. Promote a safe working environment and report any incidents or hazards.
  • Work closely with environmental scientists, engineers, and project managers to support project objectives. Communicate effectively and provide updates on fieldwork progress and findings.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of field activities, including data sheets, photographs, and field notes. Ensure data integrity and proper organization for further analysis and reporting.
  • Coordinate logistics for fieldwork, including scheduling, equipment procurement, and transportation to field sites. Ensure timely and efficient execution of field operations.


Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, biology, or a related field is preferred. Relevant certifications or diploma programs may also be considered.
  • Registered professional biologist, applied science technologist, CPESC (or eligable for registration)
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in British Columbia.
  • Strong understanding of environmental principles, regulations, and sampling techniques.
  • Familiarity with basic field navigation, survey equipment such as GPS, water quality meters, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to prioritize and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to report findings and collaborate with team members.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform fieldwork activities, including lifting heavy equipment, walking on uneven terrain, and working in confined spaces.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites.
  • Experience working with MS Word, Excel, and all programs under MS Office.


Compensation
The wage range for this position is $60,000-$78,000 annually, commensurate with experience, skillsets, and qualifications.
