Job Description

As a VP, Risk US A2A Payments & Open Banking, you will partner closely with the VP leading the US market and your peers in sales and product to shape the vision and strategy of Visa’s A2A payments and open banking products in North America. You will build a world-class risk function to execute on the strategy and bring it to life in day-to-day risk operations. You will formulate a comprehensive risk management framework and policies for the A2A payments domain and determine risk appetite in accordance with Visa’s senior risk executives. You’ll establish the framework and operational procedures to assess, monitor, and prevent fraud and settlement risk. With your team you will evaluate and implement traditional and advanced risk mitigation strategies using all risk tools at your disposal and your data science team will continuously refine Visa’s A2A payments ML models to reduce loss exposure, net losses, and improve business performance.

To be successful in this role, you need to be a self-starter, highly organized, and deeply understand the mindset of consumers and the structure of globally operating organized fraudsters. You will need to be able to build a brand-new department and hire top-tier risk talent that fits within the culture. You will also need to be able to successfully handle stakeholders on all levels across the organization, in a global environment.

Responsibilities

  • Build, own, and manage the risk function for Visa’s North America Account to Account payments and open banking team.
  • Build and manage a global team of top-tier risk talent with diverse backgrounds to execute on Visa’s product strategy in the A2A payments space.
  • Drive key initiatives and improvements together with product and engineering to meaningfully reduce the loss exposure of the business.
  • Drive key strategic risk partnerships from concept to execution.
  • Partner with product, technology, sales, marketing, finance and other functions to identify and execute on key risk initiatives to limit our exposure to fraud and settlement risk.
  • Manage the relationship with key partners in the risk domain.
  • Understand the broad set of Visa’s risk capabilities and products and identify opportunities for collaboration and creating unique product advantages.
  • Align with product teams on risk requirements and support the product and engineering teams to execute on the aligned roadmap.
  • In collaboration with sales, product, and finance actively support the pricing process during price negotiations with core customers.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally to execute with excellence in the risk domain and align closely with Visa’s risk team.
  • Support the merchant underwriting process in collaboration with the compliance team and other risk teams.
  • Identify areas across the risk value chain that will meaningfully contribute to the overall profitability of the A2A product area.
  • Responsible for driving risk requirements, risk process design, and innovation (such as big data, artificial intelligence, machine learning, graph databases).

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 12 or more years of work experience with a bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 15 or more years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD, PhD).
  • 10 or more years’ experience in a leadership role in Risk Management and/or Data & Analytics with track record of building excellent risk functions, strategic thinking and ability to execute.
  • Hands-on experience building high-performing global risk teams in the payments space with a proven track record of successful business impact at scale.
  • Significant experience managing fraud, settlement, and credit risk for consumers and businesses utilizing real-time open banking data (account, identity, balance, and activity data) to manage risk and prevent losses from ACH and EFT payments.
  • In-depth knowledge of payment products, rails, and functionality including the associated risks in North America (ACH, RTP, FedNow, EFT, etc.).
  • Ability to strike a balance between net loss management utilizing all tools available (underwriting, real-time risk decisioning, customer segmentation, collections, etc.) while maintaining industry leading approval rates.
  • Strong passion for all areas of risk management (fraud, credit, settlement, consumer, underwriting, policy), the payments space and open banking.
  • Ability to shape the risk strategy for the A2A domain by building strong relationships with risk leadership and demonstrating key domain expertise.
  • Working well within a heavily matrixed organizations, multi-national experience a plus.
  • Prior experience building and managing the risk function in payments is a must, experience with multi-national e-commerce and social networks is a strong plus.
  • Strategic thinking, thought leadership, teamwork, and relationship-building skills.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 236,300.00 to 369,300.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
