Hazen and Sawyer has an exceptional opportunity for a self-motivated and dynamic individual to join our growing Utility Management Solutions Group. This opportunity involves working with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and asset management professionals to develop utility management and planning solutions for a wide array of water-related projects locally, regionally, and nationwide. The position also involves collaborating with our Asset Management and Digital Strategies and Solutions teams to leverage Hazen s advanced planning services and data analytics platform to grow our delivery capacity. In addition, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to apply many of the analytical skills used in asset and utility management projects to assist engineering staff on other planning and design projects.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator who enjoys working as part of a team, and will have the technical, organizational, and communication skills to:

  • Assist in the development of utility management tools and asset management solutions, such as structured databases and interactive business intelligence and data visualization dashboards.
  • Collect, analyze, synthesize, and report on various types of client data.
  • Perform geospatial analysis of various water, wastewater, and stormwater systems using GIS.
  • Perform on-site field activities such as field inventory and condition assessment.
  • Assist with preparation of reports, workshops, and presentations for clients, conferences, etc.
  • Perform financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow utility management expertise.
  • Assist on projects outside of the Utility Management Solutions Group, as needed.

Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor Degree in related Engineering field
  • 0-4 years of experience
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite, especially Microsoft Excel
  • Working familiarity using and managing databases and using business intelligence tools such as Power BI or other related tools
  • Familiarity with water quality and/or water/wastewater conveyance and treatment processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong critical thinking and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with a team or independently
  • Ability to travel locally with potential for periodic overnight travel regionally.

The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following:

  • MS in STEM or MBA
  • Geospatial analysis skills using ArcGIS Pro and other Esri products
  • Data mining or statistical analysis skills
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (Python, R), SQL, etc.
  • Familiarity with statistics, advanced data analytics, and machine learning
  • Data mining or statistical analysis skills
