Contract Background

Our client needs to support the Environmental Conservation Online System (ECOS), its existing gateway website for data and reporting. At the same time, ES needs to prepare for the transition and decommissioning while developing its new cloud-based system. This system is a central point of access that assists Service personnel in managing their data and information, and it provides public access to information from numerous client databases. This system is actively transitioning away from and will replace ECOS. Management of this system is provided by the Division of Data Integration (DDI). DDI will provide direction and priorities for system operations and management tasks through the system Management Team.

Job Description

Mindbank Consulting Group has an immediate need for a Reporting Developer with expertise in SQL, enterprise data warehouse systems, ETL, visualization, SSRS, AWS QuickSight report development and Python scripting. The Reporting Developer will be responsible for creating, maintaining, and supporting reports for the ECOSphere system, a major system dedicated to improving the conservation of species through data analysis.

Reporting Developer Responsibilities:

  • Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with stakeholders, including conservation experts

and data analysts, to gather reporting requirements. Understand the data sources, key

metrics, and visualization preferences that will aid in improving species conservation.

  • Data Analysis and ETL: Analyze the existing data structure and schema of the

system's enterprise data warehouse to identify relevant data sources for

reporting. Apply ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) techniques to ensure the accuracy and

integrity of the data used in reporting.

  • Report Development: Must be able to utilize SQL, visualization tools, SSRS, AWS QuickSight, and Python scripting skills to design and develop reports that extract and transform data from the

enterprise data warehouse. Implement filters, aggregations, and calculations to

generate insightful reports that facilitate decision-making for species conservation.

  • Visualization and Presentation: Utilize AWS QuickSight and other appropriate

visualization tools to create visually appealing and interactive reports. Ensure that the

reports effectively communicate complex data and insights in a user-friendly manner.

  • Python Scripting: Develop Python scripts to automate data extraction, transformation,

and analysis processes. Leverage Python libraries and frameworks to enhance the

efficiency and accuracy of data processing tasks.

  • Testing and Quality Assurance: Thoroughly test the developed reports and Python

scripts to ensure accuracy, reliability, and alignment with the defined requirements.

Address any issues or bugs identified during the testing phase.

  • Documentation: Create comprehensive documentation for the developed reports and

Python scripts, including data sources, queries used, report specifications, and any

relevant instructions for end-users and other developers.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with our client staff to create, support, and update reports.
  • Provide detailed report requirements documentation, including data sources, parameters, metrics, and visualization preferences.
  • Efficiently develop reports using AWS QuickSight and other visualization tools, with relevant SQL queries and Python scripts.
  • Provide fully functional and tested reports and Python scripts.
  • Provide documentation for the developed reports and Python scripts, including technical specifications and user instructions.

Reporting Developer Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • No Corp-to-Corp firms- we cannot use a Corp-to-Corp firm only W2 or 1099 consultants.
  • Strong background in SQL, SSRS, and QuickSight, along with excellent analytical and communication skills to efficiently and effectively translate business requirements into meaningful and visually appealing reports and dashboards.
  • Must be very strong with SSRS that provides a set of on-premises tools and services to create, deploy, and manage paginated reports
  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or

equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in report design and development.
  • Proficient in SQL and advanced SQL querying techniques.
  • Extensive experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for designing and

deploying reports.

  • Must have hands-on experience with QuickSight.
  • Other modern data visualization tools are great to have as well.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with business

Stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes.
  • Knowledge of data modeling and dimensional data modeling techniques.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Python or R for data manipulation and

Analysis.

  • Understanding of data governance and data security best practices.
  • Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., SQL Server, QuickSight).
