The Health Law, Policy and Management (HLPM) department within the Boston University School of Public Health (BU SPH) is in search of a Research Associate to join a team examining health insurance coverage for
substance use treatment offered by Medicaid health plans. The goal of this work is to provide policy makers, states, and health insurance plans with information that will help improve access to and quality of substance
use treatment services. This position offers hybrid flexibility, with in-person presence 1-2 days per week. We value a diversity of backgrounds and experience.

The position involves working closely with the principal investigator (Maureen Stewart) and the research team to support data collection, analysis, and project management. The Research Associate will conduct primary
data collection through interviews, data abstraction, and surveys; communicate with health plans and state representatives; help to manage and analyze health care claims data; perform quantitative data analyses using
statistical analysis software (SAS or STATA); communicate findings by writing manuscripts and reports and creating presentations and data visualizations; and perform general administrative tasks to advance project
interests. Experience with health care claims data analysis and knowledge of substance use and mental health treatment systems preferred. This is a full-time grant funded position.

  • Skilled with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), project management software
  • Willing to learn other programs (e.g. Zotero, survey management software, Google, Workday) Experience with statistical analysis software (SAS or Stata)
