Course number and title: Sessional Lecturer – LHA5111H - Special Topics in Adult Education and Community Development: Master's Level, Coaching Mentoring in the Workplace; Theory and Practice

Course Description

This course introduces the foundational theory and practice of coaching and mentoring as a dialogic and relational way of working with people. The emphasis is on collaborative meaning-making whether it is coaching individuals, teams, or larger groups. The aim of the course is to provide students with highly practical experiences of coaching and mentoring interactions in class so that the skills can be applied to their immediate work context. Students will learn through live demonstration, video recordings, and small group exercises. This course will examine the process and efficacy of collaborative meaning-making based on the dominant perspectives addressed in the course: social constructionism, critical theory, and solution-focused approaches.

Estimated course enrolment: 25 students

Class schedule (Lectures): Saturday 09:00 - 12:00

Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 to April 30, 2025

Pay for half course, vacation pay included:

Sessional Lecturer I: $9,182.42

Sessional Lecturer I Long Term: $9,641.55

Sessional Lecturer II: $9,826.96

Sessional Lecturer II Long Term: $10,025.84

Sessional Lecturer III: $10,060.93

Sessional Lecturer III Long Term: $10,262.15

Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must hold a doctorate in Adult Education or a related field; have a demonstrated record of scholarship in the field of Adult Education and the subject area of the course; have practical experience related to the topic of the course; and have successful post-secondary teaching experience in the subject area of the course and must be a proven and recognized expert in and current practitioner of coaching and mentoring training in the workplace and the community. They also must have and active or recent research program on coaching and mentoring training.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable mastery in the field of adult education, workplace-based and organizational coaching and mentoring, and relevant practical experience. An established, ongoing, and successful track record of publishing concerning coaching and mentoring in workplaces and organizations is strongly preferred. Experience teaching graduate-level courses.

Description Of Duties

Prepare, organize, and lead this graduate half course; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; and evaluate student work and provide students with feedback.
